He dropped himself in IPL'14 when he couldn't make runs and offered to return his salary back to owners. 

yes, he does really care about winning, but is not the best suited for coach due to his temperament

In context mid series it has never happened a captain leaves if there is chance to draw the series even if he is not in form.More so in current Wtc cycles i don't think most would step down.if rohit himself took the decision it will set precedent for kohli and other players we will know soon
