Imagine rohit Sharma being dropped in 2023 ODI World Cup final or Rishab pant given a life line in Sydney Test match. It's surely Jaiswal who messed up MCG test match ( which is why Rohit lost it) . The outcome of 2007 t20 World Cup final would have been different if srisant had not held onto Misbah's catch. Do not downplay crucial game changing mistakes/incidents as excuses. I hope you realize we were 155 AO. Its not as if we would have chased 200.

Majestic Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Your point is valid here @Trichromatic. But I think in this test, they didn’t read the pitch well. They went with what historically happens in Sydney and chose two spinners. But during the course of the match realised that spin will have pretty much no say in this game. We should have opted for 4 pacers keeping in the mind the workload concerns. Having said that, the role was also not clearly assigned. They gave Sundar a batting position of #8 and barely used his bowling even at MCG where he was under-bowled. He should be batted in top 6 atleast if he has to be played as specialist batter who will be 6th bowler in the team. I don’t think this would have made any difference in result though. The top order simply didn’t scored enough and Bumrah needed more support from rest of the pacers. Lord 1

Was talking about 4th test where India had aus at 99/6 with Jiaswal dropping crucial catch of labu not just once but 3 times. Aus was set to bundled for 120 and India was set to chase 220 instead of 340. It was india winning with 200-220 chase but was chasing 340 because of Jaiswal. This would have led to 2-1 , India winning in MCG.

India dropped around 10 catches if i am right in the INdia's ane do series in Pakistan. India still won it with Balaji and Irfan
deathmonger Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 ISSUE NO 1: Ro-Ko not making runs hence TM wanted batting till 8 ISSUE NO 2: Reddy/Sundar aren't as good 5th bowlers by themselves So to solve both issues three all rounders A solution was there - Ashwin It should have been Ashwin Jadeja Bumrah Siraj Akash and play the extra batter in Jurel etc Ashwin while not being NKR level as a bat is a much superior bowler and would have kept an end tight (as he did in Adelaide and the previous two tours). Main thing now is to develop NKR and Bawa as well. NKR got a debut only cause TM wanted a pace bowling allrounder bad seeing what Shardul did in the 21-22 season (and even Pandya in 18) Lord 1

tweaker Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Rohit didnt use the allrounders well.Reddy should have bowled more overs but Rohit overbowled Bumrah. Reddy should have bowled when the ball was new ,but he was made to bowl with the old ball.

So what was the reason for making 157 in 2nd inning of 5th test. I guess pressure of Bumrah not being present so can i blame Bumrah for 5th test loss ?

dilliboy Posted January 5, 2025 Posted January 5, 2025 Horrible strategy...playing with 2 spinners on such pitches was just dumb af. Sundar's spot was an absolute waste...imagine if we had another pacer instead of him.

Look at this thread, Jaiswal is to be blamed for loss of 4th test not inability of top order to even bat out one session. Another thread Gambhir is being called names. Rohits justification will start coming out soon.

Infact Jaiswal was outstanding in the SCG test. But getting out the same way has become unfixable now.

We now are at the point where we have to go with newer players and brace for series loss. There will be few hit and miss, some tweeks some disasters but thats the only way forward. Question is do we want to start the process today and after a year. We could have won this series, so disappointed with result.

We could have won this series, so disappointed with result. Once Shami was injured, I think it was lost. 3-1 is a good result considering things. Technically we are in transition like 2011-15. Only reason we are winning matches is cause of Bumrah. Don't think we could have won this series. Not against that bowling attack. If Ind had the 18-19 attack, a different thing. Main thing now is to develop for two good runs in 28, 32 The Ganguly/Dhoni team had a couple of good overseas cycles as did the Kohli/Rohit team.
