If the coach-captain duo keep on overruling the coach, every coach will be there to simply collect a paycheck. Coach should be in charge off the field decisions, and the captain should have his say on the field. But currently that's not the case. Rohit has absolute power and no coach can do anything. Looks like BCCI wants a "yes man" instead of a coach.

The bottom line is under Gambhir the performances have cratered. His responsibilities are clearly defined. This victimhood narrative from Gambhir gets no sympathy from me.

The coach's role is not to demand certain players so there is no question of him being overruled. His role is to manage the team he is given and also manage the staff of coaches to produce performances. Team selection is the selector's job and the selecting the playing XI is the captain's responsibility.

If that were not the case, every coach would have an easy get out..blame any lack of performance on not getting specific players and there would be no mechanism to hold them accountable. A good coach should be able to produce performances out of any team he is provided from the talent pool available in India. Under Gambhir, the performance has taken a sudden and alarming dip and you'd have to put your head in the sand to pretend the reason is simply because XYZ player was not provided when the new coach asked for him.

Difficult to manage the team and make them winners when the team has to carry passengers and the coach is powerless to do anything about it. It's akin to moving the deck chairs as Titanic is going down. In this case coach is set up to fall as selectors haven't done their job and don't have the balls to do so. Replace Gambhir with any coach but nothing will change unless passengers are removed. Look at our T20 team to see the difference with our Test and ODI teams with the difference being presence of "seniors".

So why doesn't Gambhir resign and tell all this openly? If he's ready to be a yes man for the money he's equally responsible. He's not some damsel in distress.

Whether he resigns or not, the fact remains Gambhir or any other coach is powerless to effect a change unless selectors do their job and kick out the seniors.

There is nothing stopping him from putting his foot down if he thinks moving specific players out is critical to producing performance and walk out if conditions are not conducive. You are making him out to be a passive, helpless observer at the mercy of events. He's in a leadership role and claims to have leadership qualities. When is he going to show them ?

So far there is very little evidence of effective leadership coming out from what is his first ever coaching role as any reasonable level.

Till now gg has not taken a single step towards betterment of the team, t20i team looks good only because few players have called the time themsleves.

ODI and test team is in all sort of issue, only 1 good fast bowler is injured and there is no back-up. He didnt give rana debut till that ipl auction.

Not a single positive step, pant still plays white-ball, keeps on selecting player terming them allrounder when they do not have power game to play at 6/7/8.

Not a single fast bowler being picked, mismanagement of mayank yadav. keeping jaiswal out of odis. For A tours keep selecting wash-out or not so high potential player. Saini, aquib went to A tour to Aus, kamboj, dar and aquib makes it to emerging asia cup.

And what happened when next coach would come??? Do you belive with Dravid we would have won bgt when you have to play all matches with 9 batters. You can clearly see how much power rohit has even with playing xi fatty must be doing his tricks. Its useless to blame coaches for the performance of team when you have deadweights playing  series after series. You can clearly see stark difference between t20 and test team. Because in t20 players are chosen on merits and in test and odi its bases on their star power. No coach could do a damn if he goes opposite to captain, kumble example is there to see for everyone, gambhir is nothing infront of kumble.

So it's merely coincidence that as soon as the coach changed, results started nosediving and haven't recovered ? It is obviously not a single cause but to pretend the coach has nothing to do with the sudden change in fortunes is to be wilfully blind to reality. The captain is obviously the main person who makes team selection decisions and that hasn't changed.

Tell me which team can win with 2 main players who were non performing and bunch of other selections in team and playing xi which dint make sense . Tell me this how come t20 team performing better. Cricket is still played with personnel on ground no matter how much strategy you make you should have players to execute. To hide our batting incompetence we were compromising on bowlers. Jurel shouldnt have been dropped for Gill and fatboy and we should have played with 4 seamers , you have seen how sharma bowled bumrah to dust. If you have non performing players coach cant do ****, he will not go and play on their behalf.

We won the WT20 & the Oz tri-series in 2008 without a coach; Rajput was the manager(?) from what I remember. Coaching at the highest level is vastly overrated.

Some worrying reports about Shami's fitness, saying he had his knee strapped while bowling and was walking limping after bowling a few overs.

With Bumrah also not 100%, just hoping this doesn't come back to bite us because it will leave us with 2 rookie pacers Arshdeep and Harshit.

Needed DSP to be there in place of Jadeja who is anyway a redundancy when Axar is there.

It's a fairly irrelevant tournament which India are going to struggle in anyway and it's the spinners who might make the difference if they are to advance. Whichever quick bowlers turn up, it is unlikely to make much difference. Shami looks fine and can be tested out in the T20 series Vs England to start with

The guy is an ex MP with same party as former BCCI secretary. Don't tell me he's powerless and a victim. He is enabling the mess right now with his attitude.

With Dravid/Shastri atleast we didn't get whitewashed at home with the same deadwood. After first Test they dropped Kuldeep and never played Jurel and Axar. Atleast have to do the controllables well.

Don't agree with the enabling part. He may be influential, and that's how he got this job, but he doesn't have enough power to overrule Rohit, Agarkar and BCCI. We've already seen he has been vetoed multiple times on Harshit, Gill as VC, Samson etc. If he had all the power I doubt we see Kohli and Rohit in the team.

Not really one of the deadweight was away for entire series and Jurel a promising youngster played and save one test from jaw of defeat and made us win also played few important knocks , him along with Jaiswal had superb series and hence we won.

Kohli and Sharma have declined precipitously since then. Also Ashwin and Jadeja, main reasons for home dominance have also gotten older and worse.

Even against aus as you had to play 2 nincompoops. One of them being captain and another one has 25 million bot army to being down bcci. Why Sir Aggy the great keep on selecting these 2 failures, i see you have lot of expectations from Gambo but not from aggy +sharma, who are outrightly rejecting head coach requests.
