Mark Wood's injury may be a blessing in disguise for a one dimensional attack that relied primarily on high pace to cause damage with likely replacement Saqib Mehmood offering new ball skills and perhaps a bit more accuracy as well 

 

With Buttler having announced his resignation from England captaincy,  it would be the ideal send off for the World T20 winning captain of they were to finish this tournament on a high. 

 

But that would require a largely woeful bowling attack to step u as well as Salt, Brook and allrounder Livingstone who have disappointed so far. 

 

The task wouldn't be easy especially considering their opponents are a superior unit in every department especially since the duo of Mulder and Jansen at #7 and #8 have given this side crucial batting depth which recent Saffer sides have lacked. 

 

In Rabada and Maharaj, the bowling has a level of control that England lack and Jansen provides variety with a left arm angle.

 

Pitch and conditions 

 

The last match played here between SA and AFG had bounce and seam movement which reminded RVD of a "home" pitch with large cracks offering seam movement .

 

However, the usual Karachi pitch is either flat and high scoring or flat and slow and the last match may have been a clear exception. 

 

It's usually a bat first pitch and no rain is expected in Karachi today 

 

Matchups 

 

The record suggests that Bavuma and RVD are weak against off spin but the Saffers are very good players of spin otherwise .

 

 

England on the hand have plenty of weaknesses against spin. 

 

Jamie Smith is extremely poor and Brook, Salt are average against offspin.

 

Brook, Duckett, Salt and Root are average against SLA spin

 

Salt is average against left arm seam and Root and Livingstone are poor against it .
