We need the opposite of ‘Impact Player Rule’ in the IPL to incentivise all rounders

First cancel impact player rule

Then, twice per tournament, teams must play with TEN PLAYERS

right now we reduce value of all round talent, this would put a PREMIUM on having both batting, bowling and top class fielding skills

They should at least limit the "impact" of the "impact player". Like the impact player can only bat/bowl for 2 overs in the game. Otherwise, the so-called impact player is just a "super sub" and IPL is essentially turning the game into 12 players per side.

The rule is also allowing players like Shivam Dube to get away without any fielding practice. Then he dropped that catch against Pakistan and almost cost us the game.

Higher scores.

Spot-on. They are not going to give that up to help Team India develop better test cricketers. That's not their job.

The only way is to incentivize red ball cricket so that it is an attractive option. How? I don't know.

Impact player rule seems to be changing rigid batsmen's mindset.. Virat, KLR, DDP, Rahane etc have all improved their strikerates.. its also helping youngsters to go all guns blazing  and the TM is also less critical  in case of failures

May be limit the use as number of times…like one team can use the impact player option 5 times only throughout the tournament or just allow to play a young or uncapped player  as impact player so likes of Undercutter and co are skipped..

What is the IPL's logic in having this rule?

more runs= more views= more $$.... quality of match can go to hell

IPL ran for 15+ years without impact rule how many good, not asking about intnl level even ipl level allrounders were unearthed ???

There were alot of fake allrounders placed in every team just to make the team sheet look balanced on the the paper. Ipl teams were shelling alot of mny of these fake allrounders just to find sense of fake balance side.

What Impact rule had done is the replace those fake allrounders with proper batters or bowlers ....

If there was no impact sub rule teams would have been conservative and likes of kolhi/kl/rohit or players similar to them (rutu/gill etc...) would have been the main gig as teams would have been looking to be conservative, the impact sub rule have made team bit adventurous.

Without Impact sub player like Abhishek/Arya/Ayush/Viabhav would have been sitting on bench and even if they were getting chances they would have been asked to play in middle order.

Bowlers like Ashok/Tyagi with any kind of pace would have been sitting out or not getting ipl contract at all.

The reason why Ind never had good t20 side before the current team is because of this reason running the biggest league and not having proper t20 players as player who were starts in diff. formats took up most important roles of batting in top of the order and play per their liking 35-40 ball 50-52 runs kind of batters

IPL is not there to develop a player, its there to showcase what they got , its upto domestic cricket to prepare allrounders who can be picked into the IPL.

Once elite level allrounders are there in domestic they will show up in IPL playing 11.

Player like Mukul/Aniket would not happen if there was no impact sub rule, player suited to t20 cricket are getting into playing 11 in their 1st season itself rather than warming the benches and then been dropped altogether .

The rule has weeded out bits and pieces players, its giving chance to 1 more domestic batter and 1 more domestic bowler. lot of x-factor players are getting into the sides

Reason was simple entertainment value ,extending the shelf like of star players and quality of cricket  Once the top 5 wkts were down the fake allrounders would come in to bat wont hit 4/6 and game drags-on.

these allrounders were only able to bowl when proper batters are not batting or if they were bowling when proper batters were batting the competition level was way down , You need proper batter vs Proper bowler kind of competition

And in addition to this weaker and newer sides were asking if they can play 1 extra OS player as the top players were already taken by stronger or older team.

This was a method devised to cater all the issue.

Bits and pieces rubbish like Shahbaz Ahmed, Lalit Yadav, Aman Khan, Raj Bawa  etc. becoming automatic selections will never improve the quality of IPL.

So we should give up hopes of developing an all rounder or part timer in the IPL? Part timers are a valuable skill in international cricket. Bowlers that can bat too, they feel no pressure in the IPL to even try

I may be imagining this but I feel that only due to "safedi Ka chamatkar" the non Indian (Aus/Eng) all rounders or part timers get much more bowling opportunities than Indian ones in the IPL.

Look at other teams part-timmer-- maxwell, phillips, maxwell... they are using the bilaterals to work on their bowling skills. Why not Ind batters ???

There can be 2 reasons- 1 batters themselves do nt want to risk losing the game and be blamed or the captain not willing to do it again do not want to take the blame if they lose.

Whereelse other teams have developed part-time bowlers with in intnl games , you do not need IPL for that. If there was no impact-sub some high potential bowlers and batters who have taken Ind t20 to next level would jst be warming the benches and play garbage time game or asked to play in middle order.

Faster bowlers would have to sit-out, it is v.clear IPL teams does not favour faster bowlers and that is bad for Ind itnl cricket. Impact-sub rule is just giving faster bowler a life-line.

Teams are looking or x-factor players now--- Shivang, few more mystery spinners getting contract this season. else previously some fake allrounder frm top 4-6 domestic side would be in playing 11 each time season after season without contributing to the side.
