Didnt that Malaysian duo defeat them? They always cause them problems. They somehow beat them in the qf recently but lost to this Chinese pair in the next round.

Once they had Wawrinka Federer Rossett. Very difficult to fathom how low they have fallen. Seen with my own eyes they have excellent sporting insfrastructure.

Vaishali Rameshbabu won the Grand Swiss tournament and qualified for the Candidates 2026. Three Indian women in the candidates now. Hope one of them wins it to qualify for the World Chess Championship.

Lots of finals qualifications and decent finishes in recent years.

 

Hopefully by 2036 we win 4-5 athletics medals.

We will have a Neeraj effect like Vishy effect in the past. Already so many 80m+ javelin throwers, more than any other country except Germany. Indian field athletics boom is well on the way.

 

Neeraj is already the most important sportsperson of independent India, overall his legacy will be just behind Dhyan Chand.

I think a Sputnik moment will be a track medal.

 

Not like we haven't gotten close with Milkha and PT Usha.

 

The Kerala runners do very well in 4 X 400m.

Avinash Sable regularly finishes in top 10 in steeplechase, but a bit on the older side now. Was discovered late, only after joining the army did he even realize that there was one such sport, similar to Paan Singh Tomar's story. 

 

I don't think we can medal any time soon in marquee events like 100, 200, 400, relay, 10k, marathon....also American/Caribbean blacks (West African descent) in sprint, North East Africans (Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia) in endurance runs have unreal dominance in those events, genetics too plays a role because of which you won't even see whites from developed coiuntries anywhere near them.

 

Our success will mostly come via some intermediate event like 1500/5000, 3000m steeplechase, maybe even walking events which the East Asians have mastered.

Yeah maybe something like hurdles. PT Usha was hurdles.
