What's the point of Gill in T20s???

If you can't handle Abhishek in nets, how will you handle Santner, Maharaj, Rashid, Zampa in the WC KOs? As such Gill is the first guy from our side to wave white flag in KOs (1 good knock in 23 SF, 7 failures), even if he makes it out of initial overs with his 130 SR, any half decent spinner will tie him up? GG is encouraging this madness, same GG who is supposedly against superstar culture?

Doing well in Asia Cup against 9th and 10th ranked sides means nothing. But failing even against them is damning.

Few days back, @Nikhil_cric shared a powerplay stat which is even more damning. 

 

Basically the only batsmen more destructive than Jaiswal in PP are Abhishek, Head and one more guy, I think Salt. He will be first choice opener in any country apart from India, because we have to accomodate a 140 SR superstar.

There is a yawning chasm between Gill the T20 batsman and Abhishek the T20 batsman.

Need to keep red ball team separate from 20 overs format, some overlap possible with ODIs but tests and T20s are poles apart nowadays.

Yes already suffered enough by mixing formats. You can't be fearless enough in T20s and solid enough for Tests at the same time. Maybe Jaiswal can do it but thats about it. And there's no need of Jaiswal to do it too. We have enough options

Because Jaiswal bats the same way in all formats with slight gear shift.

Yeah, Jaiswal, Gill can work in tests+ODIs. Someone like Abhishek (maybe even Shreyas) in T20s and ODs. No need of 3 format players, our talent pool is too big.

Bad habits from T20s have creeped in his test game, threw away his wicket with T20 shots so many times against NZ last year, and in England......as such life is bloody tough for a test opener. He was much more compact in 2023-24.

Needs to be more solid in Tests. Talent is there ofcourse but still lacks patience. Hes far more important in Tests for us to play T20s

What Jaiswal can do in T20s, 5 other guys from India can do something similar or better in next 10 years.

 

What Jaiswal can potentially do in tests, very few in the history of cricket have achieved till date. At age 23, he has matchwinning 100s as opener in Perth and Oval, most of our ATGs couldn't achieve that in their entire careers. He is a potential 10k guy at 50 average, which for an opener in modern era is almost unthinkable.....guy is a hybrid of Graeme Smith and Sehwag. So yeah, him in tests should be first priority.
