bsriharsha Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Their definition of talented player is/was Umar Akmal. And he was as a limited batsman. Their chutya public makes it seem like a batsman has arrived when he flukes 2-3 innings in the beginnng of his career. This leads to the cricketers getting to their head that they don't need to work on their game. Once it's found out by the opposition, they then have no more cards to play and are left with their pants pulled down. Gollum 1

Only when the first batches of post liberalization players came into the team by the late 90s-early 2000s, Sachin started winning a lot more including overseas tests/series and ICC titles. Pakistan's setup is so flawed that players regress after a few years. Even India "lost" a lot of talent back in the day like Irfan, RP Singh etc. Now the system has become good enough that everyone is polished. Australia is the definition of a good system where a lot of players who were mediocre in their 20s come into the team in their 30s and become world class for a few years. So even if generational talents come into these teams, nothing is going to change. And Afghanistan had a generational talent in Rashid Khan and have players like Noor Ahmad etc. Pak decline - like WI - coincides with foreign player cap In County cricket, you can check the timeline. It used to be their finishing school. Indian domestic cricket for all its flaws has never needed this which is why we continue to produce cricketers of a certain minimum standard and pedigree. But as soon as teams starts any game become professional, alot of science , proven knowledge come in. Similar to Olympic sports a lot of sports science is enveloped. There will 1-2 outlier but often a well rounded and robust system works over long period of time. Take Aus they have cricketing knowledge was before any1 else had. Their system hardly produce duds, this may not produce a malinga or a murali but it will always produce a Mcgrath, warn, Cummins etc. Previously batters who were considered hitter would/could only target leg side now with the understanding how power is generated batters are hitting sixes on off-side too. Currently all pak batters still have pak 90s style hitting technique. You can produce bowlers without a proper 'system' and encourage instinctive tendencies which can still produce results and you will get bowlers like Rauf Sami and maybe even Siraj. It's hard to do with batsman which is much more process and detail oriented. Gollum and tapandrun 2

That generation who started in the mid 00s (Dhoni, Gambhir contemporaries) were the last ones who could somewhat compete. Were not as good as the late 90s gen (Younis, Youhana, Akhtar, Saqlain) but still were okay. It's a slow decline. Even WI had decent players like Gayle, Sarwan in that time period.
vvvslaxman Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Pakistan cricket is phinished. PCB has withdrawn the NOC they gave before. These guys might start retiring soon.
Gollum Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 In the past they produced many limited players who through hard work moulded themsleves into their best versions. YK, Misbah, Azhar Ali, Malik, Hafeez, Yasir Shah all kept their heads down, put in hard yards and did well for themselves. Don't see any grit in present Pooks, they are arrogant, low IQ, have inflated views about themselves...and will always underachieve.

Neither Tilak nor Abhishek were that hyped as kids. Their U-19 peers Jaiswal and Gill respectively were the golden boys (and they have been good). Now look at where Tilak/Abhishek are. Pakistan sends 31 year olds and capped players to Emerging Asia Cup and celebrates when those guys beat 20-21 year old kids from India. That sums up everything that's wrong with their cricket. Look at the team India sent to the 2023 Emerging Asia Cup. Apart from Abhishek and Riyan who had a few years of IPL experience under their belt, everyone else had played 0 to 2 years at the senior level. It was a great exposure to relatively unknown youngsters like Jurel, Reddy and Harshit, who have now become household names. 31 year old Tayyab Tahir was hyped to the moon after hitting a century against these kids. But he turned out to be a mediocre player at the international level. rollingstoned 1

Pace in be increased with repetitions and strengthing and bowling in nets can improve accuracy. Batting req. years of practice, there is no trades that once can say will make a good batter. Batters need play cricket properly a tennis or tape ball batter can not play leather ball. Ball swings and seams. If som1 never played a particular pace or spin type its hard to achieve that ability on the fly. And the big factor comes is run scoring no amount of nets can tell a better how to score runs. Batter can pay good looking shots in nets but those will be stoped in matches, what do you do next. how to construct an innings, rollingstoned 1

What they lack is temperament, education , brains or etiquette. Not limited to just cricket players. These guys lost to USA in the World Cup. They don’t have “raw talent”. This is a holdover from the 1980s and 1990s when Pakistan was a richer country on a per capita basis than India and had a lucky streak with a few generational talents. Indian cricket OTOH was held back by incredible corruption where you had to pay several lakhs to get into a Ranji team unless your talent was at Sachin level. Also, Pakistan recruited from the streets whereas India recruited from the coaching classes. And Indian coaches were terrible. They took players and made them worse. Pakistan’s big advantage was their players didn’t usually go through terrible lower level coaching classes because they were picked off the streets. It’s when Dhoni started doing this that Indian talent improved, and it’s only over the last 10-15 years that Indian coaching at the grassroots level has upgraded to not making players worse. Cricket is declining over-all, only SENA+Ind are improving. The reason is simple and would be answer to alot of post on this thread is because cricket was and has been a amateur sports and there will be upswing and downswing with the time. SENA+Ind has become professional in sports, so they have knowledge of know how and know why and have incorporated data and sports science so they can reproduce and repeat the process again and again. Good example is Aus they have this knowlege of cricket for such a long time that even when they are not v.good they can win ICC events, a last time assembled team is hard to beat in icc event. They know what works why that works. As for the county cricket, there is alot of cricket already going on there is no way a top intnl player has time to go to county plus add the t20 leagues. And a lot of playing county cricket was mny back then now player have leagues to go. For county cricket its not that hard , few yrs back babar was playing for county, pujara was playing recently some of other pak players were also playing. Not sure wht level it was evey1 was hitting 100s/200s pujara got multiple 150+ . Right now vilatity t20 is going on and in-parallel their 50 overs tournament is also going on, so now quality is not such that there will be an improvement to the game as top players are contracted elsewhere. Wi cricket has been on decline since 90s since sc team ind, pak, sl got better at oids and started playing themsleves and wi didnt get much cricket that time. Then player started having issues with board think it became noticeable from the time of lara. And things spiralled. but t20 cricket came and wi was back in the top but recently their talent pool is v.dry not sure what happened next. gen wi batter are not even t20 player. there was a time when they were most sought after. At one time they had so many player with power game that wi can not have all of them around and they never got full chances. But now what happened ??? After Pooran, Rutherford and hetmyer who are next ? And for pak moving away from test was a deliberate move from Pcb and cricketers, as soon as psl got going all the focus shifted there. T20s are easy to make mny make superstars from. A player with little to no domestic exp. would come into psl and score some run would make in to pak side.
