In white ball cricket, Gill is a poor man's Babar Azam

Someone in PeePee forum please create a thread comparing Gill to Babar Azam and say Babar is better.

That's probably the only way Gill magically improves and becomes an all time GOAT T20 batsman.

Take one for the team guys. Come on.

Ashwin is pretty vocal. He said "anil alla" for anyone with strike rate below 145 as opener

“In modern-day T20 cricket, you will not be selected as an opener if you come with a strike-rate of less than 145. I am very sorry to say. You like players like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, all these players who are setting it up for you. You could win the T20 World Cup because how Virat played in the final against South Africa. But when you have players like these on one side, you need to fight on the other side. That’s why Rohit took it upon himself,” he said.

yes ppl are talking about sr, they all know what other teams are building upto

NZ and Pak are only 2 teams where hehas played more than 2 games and has SR over 135.

NZ-184, Pak-153 and it that ton vs NA and and that 45 Vs pak. Apart from 1 vs NZ he has 3 fifties 2 of which are vs Zim where his sr is 126 (over all vs Zim) and other vs WI vs them his overall SR is 120

Think bcci's plan is to Open with him in wc- he will get some soft runs vs weaker oop. and what ever be the result of the wc sky will retire and gill will become the captain and move to #3.

They thought after the eng series time was good to add him and give him vc and hopefully he will score runs vs weaker teams and even if the Aus tour does nt go so well for him but he will have something from asia cup to show for.

The issue is apart from that 1 innings vs pak he has nothing much from aisa cup and nothing to show for vs Aus in Odis or t20s.

They all know that that 45 run innings was not good and any1 would/cold play if the only job is to block balls and not to try hit the ball, even opposition would like that to happen so that pressure is on the batter on the other end to up the rr

If the team is scoring 220+ with him

Means, team scores 270+ without him on a flat deck

That's a massive difference, a difference between loss and win

Just like CWC 23 SF vs NZ at Wankhede a legend thought 330 was enough only to be corrected by Iyer who new it was never enough and went for ultimate and batted out opposition

This is why a single guy like Gill will ensure you loose even in your best batting day

Couldnt agree more same as Sachin was a poor mans Inzi in white ball cricket

Inzi never had an ODI ton against the two best bowling attacks of his era, RSA and Aus. Average 30, SR 65. Even otherwise his ODI SR was comparable to Dravid's.Old Sachin did more in one season (2007-08) in ODI cricket than what Inzi managed in his lifetime. Sachin is easily top 5 ODI batsman of all time, Inzi inferior to his own countrymen, Zaheer Abbas and Saeed Anwar.

Too much PR against his inclusion now, Gill doesn't have Kohli's chops at the same age nor anywhere near his body of work to declare him prince and his successor. He has already got Prince label on his bat now and BCCI is hell bent on destroying not only his own career by playing him in every single match in every format but 3 others in Samson, Tilak and Jaiswal along with unsettling our whole batting line up in the process. That we still find a way to win is because of the rest of the talent we have but it is an unnecessary risk we are running with only a few months left for the WC.

Important point, this many are not seeing. Now that Gill has found his test game, let him work on that and aim to become a 50+ averaging guy, lead us to WTC maces. Too much format mixing will reduce his peak years drastically.

Kohli got all format captaincy in 2016-17 when he had already established himself in all formats. And still that golden phase of all format dominance lasted only till 2019, never underestimate the mental burden of all format leadership role in Indian cricket. Anyway, during Kohli's time, T20Is was still being figured out, put mid 2010s Kohli in this era and he too would struggle to fit into the T20 template as a batter. And here we are overburdeing Gill when he hasn't even properly established himself in all formats, this may end his career before he turns 30.

You can see why he doesn't manage to hit many 6s, everytime by sheer instinct he is rolling his wrists even when pulling the ball to keep it down. Reverse also can happen in that big backlift which you need nowadays for LOIs to hit sixes will leave you vulnerable in red ball cricket. Not even Jaiswal who has a higher ceiling and better all format suitability is immune from this as we have already seen.

Yeah that is why I don't mind keeping Jaiswal out of T20s. But ODIs he should play, tests and ODIs for Gill, Jaiswal. We should have a separate specialist side for T20Is where we can try out even Prabhsimran, Priyansh Arya.

Sarcasm means the use of words or expressions to mean the opposite of what they actually say.
