He should be in every LOI squad and be a starter in the team. He's a genuine wkt taker and can lower RR. It's not as if we've better options. I would have Varun C as the starter and Parag and Axar as other spin options. Selectors should've brought in Parag for this series as we need to blood in more youngsters, especially all-rounders. If Axar is dropped, I would rather Parag be given a chance instead of has-been Jadeja.

it's not like they are resting him for T20 WC,he is playing VHT  and bowling well.

Madness of Indian cricket. Chakri and Axar were instrumental in our CT triumph, A+ performance backed by clutchness in big games, now sidelined completely. No wonder we always underachieve.

This is one of the worst selection panel I've seen. They're actually fixing what ain't broke. The ones they should be dropping for lack of clutchness (Gill) walks in while folks who have proved themselves in tough situations (Axar, Varun C) are nowhere to be seen!

This was the perfect time for selectors to try out Jaiswal or Ruturaj for opening slot instead of Gill, and also try out Parag lower down the order to see if he can take over the batting all-rounder type of role which Maxwell played for Aus. But they again went with Jadeja who was never a great ODI player. No vision shown by selectors at all and they seem to be going back to a pre-2023 team.

At this rate, 27 WC will go the way of the 07 disaster in the Caribbean. Maybe BCCI wants that so that it permanently kills ODI interest in this country, and they can do away with the format.

They are doing the same with our test team. Maybe GG's job is to fasten the process. No sane TM would do what ours did against RSA last month.

That's what it looks like. India will go with over the hill players with Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja, Shami etc. and on top of that we'll have soft players who aren't clutch like Gill. Plus we've a bunch of right-handers with no leftie batters at all. Selectors haven't given any thought to either building a team for the future or try some left field picks to see how they do. Pretty disappointing selections so far.

The only half-decent thing they've done is remove Gill from the WT20 squad but even there we're carrying SKY.

Jadeja needs to be dropped, but there is no sign of Kohli regressing in this format. Can’t throw someone out who made two consecutive centuries and then followed them with two great scores in domestic cricket too.

Gill hasn’t done well under pressure in this format but he has done that in tests and that is enough to cling on to some hope.

I will prefer Jaiswal over Gill as opener cos that will help us get a left at the top.

KL is not going anywhere so there is absolutely no scope of any other lefty from 1 to 6.

It looks like we are going to take the exact same batting lineup for the next world cup and that isn’t really a good sign.

Mostly agree with your post. But can't club Kohli with the other oldies, he is 1.5 years younger than Rohit, way fitter, and still delivering the goods in ODIs. I don't see any player displacing him for an ODI WC in RSA conditions, where he has a terrific record...also his reading of the game is unsurpassed. BCCI should keep communication lines open with him just to gauge his motivation levels, only if he is mentally checked out should we look past him.....I don't think that is the case in his favorite format. Rohit too is a legend, but he'll be 40+ during WC which is far from ideal.

Short term, hope to see Jaiswal in the XI more often, to learn the art of ODI batting from Ro-Ko. Was fantastic to see him develop partnerships with them in the 3rd ODI against RSA last month, need more of that. ODI cricket is a fading format, not much experience left, so all the more important for our senior legends to mentor our next generation.

Kohli still remains a beastly pace hitter.  He will have his utility in SA.

I love how Rohit bats at the top and the prospect of him teeing off in those Highveld fast scoring grounds is tempting but age has to catch up at some point.  Those are six hitting grounds all right

Don't think Jaiswal's game suits SA style conditions.. but boy needs to learn on the job mostly focus on test cricket.  Has forgotten how to build test inns in pursuit of short form (T20 success)

He will click in ODIs once he regains his test mojo back.

Keep him away from T20s

It's not about an individual player but more about the team. I haven't seen a team win a tourney with most of the core players touching 40, and Kohli is one of them. He'll be 38 (or 39) at the time of the WC. With 5 players in late 30s, we're carrying a proverbial dad's army and I expect them to struggle due to age and slowed down reflexes.

Agree about Kohli but as I mentioned in my previous post, you don't win a tourney with your core touching 40. Jadeja shouldn't have been recalled and KL should've been sunset as well. Ideally, one of Rohit and Kohli should've been replaced. Pick one and stick with them but right now we're carrying too many players in late 30s. And when you see selectors recall Shami, it spells trouble as we're carrying the same core we had in 2015 WC!

We shouldn't carry 5 oldies for sure, but 1-2 is fine. Anyway, Aus won 2007 WC with many 36+ yos.

Jaiswal

Gill/Rohit (c)

Kohli

Shreyas/Tilak

KL/Pant

Hardik

Parag/Rinku

NKR/Axar

Rana/Arshdeep

Bumrah

Varun C/Kuldeep

Average age will be in high 20s. One guy 35+, outside chance of Rohit if he still got it. Not a sureshot WC winning XI, but at least they have a fighting chance.

Agree totally Jadeja should have been dropped straight after CT. Axar has proved a good ODI option. I don't understand it.

Parag is injured unfortunately. Not played vht at all and didn't play last few smat matches. I would like to see him too in ODIs

Dropping of RUturaj, Axar need to be questioned. I think India is going to slowly start losing LOIs as well  with these kind of selection. Why did Reddy play in INdia as 5th seamer at the expense of centurion Ruturaj.  Gauti needs a strong lesson.

They should have tried atleast 3-4 new or fringe players in this series, there was no point in picking full strength side.

Do not think axar is dropped think with jadu they are checking if he can be ok for SA wc, he is still the best fielder in the team and in SA only 1 of axar or jadu will be in 15.

Its okay if they keep varun, abhishek to the t20is only not mess-up with the mind-set and the mystery. Pandaya and Axar are playing VHT which provides them more opportunity to bat for longer and work on their batting plus they do not have to put 100% effort in vht games to be good so its okay if they play there. Specially Pandaya need him fit for wc else the combination goes off big time.

Selectors should have rewarded good domestic performers in this series like :: Padikal (do not think he is intnl quality but score alot of runs in List A, they are giving him chances in tests do not think he is good for tests but try him in Odis, he can play from 1-4), Samran <-- both are LH batters will be useful as Ind lacks LH in the odi batting line up, Kussghara/Dalal as wk and mo batters,Vipraj, Ashok ,Arsad ..

Rutu has done well too in the opportunity he got should not have dropped him. He can Open /play at #4/ and wk too.

He seems like flat track batter but who is not ???? Think he is lot better version of gill, rutu have proved himself in number of A tours, he as tendency to be self protective but thats ok in Odis plus he is capable hitter of both pace and spin .

no sure what Ind selectors and TM sees in Sundar, there is no way a specialist off-spinner of his batting/hitting ability can be in playing 11 in white-ball.

other teams are using wk to bowl off-spin.

if pant is not going to make into playing 11 then let him play vht at-least he can work on his white-ball batting benching all the time is not helping him

3 of those are ATGs and they're still younger than the ones we'll be carrying. And the Aussie players age is the real age and we already know that our players' real age would be closer to 40.

Gary kirsten was 2011 coach for India. He was frustrated that he was fitter than most oft he Indians. He was 42 years old then.

The thing was game was not changing at that time the way its changing now, plus what ever innovation/changes were coming out were coming from Aus side.

Think  they were openly that they are planning to score 400 each match, they were the best fielding side even with the age.
