Surely the end of the road for Shami.

In general I am not in favor of farewell games. But is there is someone who deserves a good send-off in ODI format, it is Shami, our ODI MVP and WC GOAT.

Problem with this sendoff concept is the number of ODIs have reduced drastically now. If we were playing 20-24 ODIs every year still, it would have been easy to sneak in a WI, Afg series somewhere and give Shami the farewell series. Right now Shami will most likely get smashed all around the park and also waste whatever precious ODI practice we can have. We still don't know if Harshit/Prasidh/Arshdeep are any good in ODIs and can be picked for 2027..

Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 100 in the final ODI against RSA. Will he be cut from the 1st XI?

Gill has scored 130 runs in his last 7 ODIs. Complete flop in Australia.

He deserved an ODI ICC trophy.. got one in the end. That was a fitting farewell for him already.

Tbh Anything less than WTC for most of the members of GOAT Indian test unit of 2015-21 is a downgrade but it is what it is.

Last guy to get a proper send off was Nehra in Delhi T20I vs NZ.  Post that we don't do that anymore.

Ruturaj should have been persisted with... I am not his fan as an opener but considering WC is in SA and he did well at no 4 we could have used a player with solid spin as well as pace hitting capability on backfoot.

Selectors are morons.

Big series for Gill in hindsight.  His star power is simply not great, has already lost most of his Indian fanbase.  Rohit Kohli, Jaiswal Pant fans hate him.. and that's 90% of ICT fans.. Pressure is huge on the guy.

Everyone wins if Gill sticks to test captaincy and max 2 formats.

Because of WTC system, there is a big prize in that format, and context for every game. He should just focus on tests and help us win our 1st title, at least in next cycle when RSA, Aus will be old.

I don't think he has acquired that match winning ability that our past ODi greats achieved yet. He is stil young enough.  Stepping up when matters is what counts. Not when there is a soft target. He has done wel in Tests in recent times. But in LOI he is yet to prove himself despite the inflated average

So much easier to get behind Gill, now that he isn't in the T20 WC squad. Man was that some irritating phase, keeping Samson and Jaiswal out, messing up team combo, denying vital game time/experience to many of our youngsters.

NZ is not sending full strength side why Ind not trying new players in these series and then they say why there are no test players. Ind is not trying to develop players in Odis from where the test batters should be picked.

Its clearly tm under-pressure, which want to play their best side even if other teams is sending a 2nd 11.

Gill enjoys playing NZ in Ind or easy pace and bounce surfaces in white-ball has avg of ~70 and SR of 104 , with 2 tons and 2 fifties.

What's the point of picking Rutu, watching him perform and then dropping him unceremoniously.

And why the f are useless guys like Sundar playing ahead of Axar ?

This is a joke

For other Intnl teams wk are bowling off-spin in white-ball and Ind wants a specialist off-spinner .

Glen Philllips, Denevon Ferreira, Stubbs can do wk and bowl off spin and can make into playing 11 just on their batting.

They keep preferring Jadeja and Sundar over Axar. I don't understand their plans for 27 WC.

Not a fan of Rutu but he scored a top 100 in his previous innings. On what basis is he dropped?

Rutu accelerates better than Gill

I will take any batter over Gill. Both Jaiswal and Ruturaj should be preferred over Gill. Gill is a softie who has shown he won't be a difference maker other than meaningless bilaterals. It's time we cut our losses and keep him solely for Tests.

The player BCCI and selectors are trying to make Gill into is actually Jaiswal. Need a couple of lefties at the top coz right now our ODI batting lineup is all RHB - Gill, Rohit, Kohli, Iyer, KL, Pandya.

I would also take Axar over Jadeja. At least he's clutch and can be slotted in at 5. We seem to be going backwards after the successes of WT20 and CT. Axar was one of the main reasons for us winning both tournies and is clutch, and we've kicked him out

BTW why have we dropped Varun from the team completely? didn't we win CT with him?

He should be in every LOI squad and be a starter in the team. He's a genuine wkt taker and can lower RR. It's not as if we've better options. I would have Varun C as the starter and Parag and Axar as other spin options. Selectors should've brought in Parag for this series as we need to blood in more youngsters, especially all-rounders. If Axar is dropped, I would rather Parag be given a chance instead of has-been Jadeja.
