zen Posted May 18 Posted May 18 (edited) As the title spells out - first Jadeja and now Gaikwad, both appear to crumble under captaincy as if it is a crown of thorns. Will situation improve for future captains once Dhoni retires and his shadow diminishes? Or Is CSK better off making a non star but a solid player its captain? Edited May 18 by zen
Lord Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Different situations. Jadeja captained while Dhoni was playing so players literally used to ignore Jadeja. Dhoni was captain unofficially. Gaikwad has no such excuse. He is just poor both as a T20 bar and as a captain bowl_out and cricspirit 2
cricketfan28 Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Cannot match dhoni ..so always will be a problem, dhoni elevated csk now players should elevate it not kaptaan.
bowl_out Posted May 18 Posted May 18 For one, Dhoni should retire and move on.. The captain should not have to constantly face questions about a 45 year old uncapped player. Second, Ruturaj was strategically pathetic. Had he made more correct tactical moves and the team still faltered, there wouldn't be so much scrutiny. Plus he own performance sucked. tapandrun, nevada, New guy and 1 other 1 1 2

He should be let go by CSK like they did with Raina.
tapandrun Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Making players captains who are not t20 players themselves will always have somekind of issues somewhere. 1stly team has to give them majority role in the playing 11 like a batter would need to open or for the bowlers they will need to bowl full 4 overs and that too when batters are nt going after the bowlers. Its always better to select a pick ipl captain who is good at t20 cricket to start with. Its not jst csk issue look at other sides too-- Rahane , Rishab, even Parag. None of these players are suited to t20 yet they are captains of the side. evey ipl team has multiple intl stars and those t20 stars being captained by some1 who is not even t20 batter will have all kind of problems<-- In MI even pandaya is t20 player but there are multiple star players caused the leadership issue and now just imagine it with having a non-t20 player as the captain, team's strength can not be fully actualized You can have a young player and ask others to reaily around him and senior players to support that player in decision making etc.. When they made Jaddu the captain he wast just a figure actual power resided with dhoni and it was evident every game , with rutu the issue is he is not a proper t20 player and there better t20 players in csk who have to move up/down to accomodate him, same for kkr and lsg with their captain. for rr , parag is young and ipl teams can ask senior players to work with him but issue is he is not a #4 batter if he bats bit down the order it would be ok, bt captains wants top 4 batting slots. bowl_out, IndianRenegade and cricspirit 3
IndianRenegade Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Ruttu would hardly make the team if he wasn't the captain, CSK should have the tough decision to let Ruttu go as captain & make Sanju the captain. tapandrun and bowl_out 2

It looks like the franchise wants to milk the Dhoni aura for as long as possible. But Dhoni is a grown up and should have quietly retired instead of this constant "will he or won't be" drama.
