BacktoCricaddict Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Like Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Rathod has been unfairly ignored from red-ball cricket. He is probably just as deserving - if not more - than Padikkal or Gaikwad for a M.O slot in the India-A team. He has championship pedigree, 60 avg, 60+ SR. He is 26 now, and his window will probably close soon. Why is he being sidelined? Eyetest @maniac? Lord, maniac and tweaker 2 1
tapandrun Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Yes, he should have been developed for tests. the issue is all the selections are made on the basis of ipl. Players like him are no t20 force even in domestic t20 leagues and there is no way they can make it to ipls. nevada, BacktoCricaddict, express bowling and 1 other 2 2
vvvslaxman Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Smaran also plays well. No.3 spot is the single most important spot in overseas tour besides openers. Who are ready to take on no.3. It has been a problem for a lot of teams around the world. Cam Green, Mulder, Bethel many players are being tried around the world. For us Karun , Sai, Sundar tried. You need to have excellent temperament, tempo, technique for no.3 to do well in Tests. Most of these guys are no.4 or 5 or 6.

But is not even in India A. The Ranji Trophy system produces only one type of good player. Not pacers ... but people gave such strong support to Nabi. Not spinners who perform home and away. But good test batsmen. Why is he being ignored like this. ?? Edited July 3 by express bowling Sgattick10 1

From whatever little I have seen, he seems to play mostly on the front foot. But could be due to the slow pacers too.

Can not really gauge back foot game unless he plays, intnl quality bowlers , ranji is filled with 130 kmph bowlers no one going to bounce a batter. May be 1-2 ball specially for batters who are know to have obvious issues with short -ball. Thats the reason they pick batters from ipl they think this player can handle itnl level bowler in ipl then should be picked in whatever format. Most ind batters does not have good backfoot game or ability to play high quality pace they take time , so its either pick players from ipl who can handle intnl bowlers hope they develop test game. Or pick ranji domestic player who has game for test but will need time to develop vs quality pace. Would have select a long format specialist and hope they develop or even fail at-least were tried or hope some1 who played 20 balls comfortable on rather flat surface pick them and play test??? Will nt get test players who are not odi players, previously odi were litmus test for ind batters to come to test or ranji, now its ipl Edited July 3 by tapandrun

He kind of only scored vs spin , he is mostly leg-side player if not wrong?? even in ipl games he was unable to connect the ball And srh does not have particularly faster bowlers. Why is he being ignored like this. ?? The answer to all selections and non selection is selection based on ipl. Teams got ipl teams only got interested in Nabi because he could make it to Ind side, its not like he was a good t20 bowler. Same with sarfarz he has been scoring lot on ranji runs but no ipl team was interested in him , as soon as there were some chances Ipl teams started showing interest. Ipl teams wants their players in ind side, it attracts lot of fan base, and sponsors. Ipl team pushes their players in A tours , emerging cups and when a/b/c level sides are picked. And selectors and coaches think if such player can play vs inlt level player in ipl they just select that player regardless of the format. Sometime they just pick players because of the pressure-- Patidar was picked in Odis and Tests but never got a chance in t20is, Rahul tripathi had decent series but then they dint pick him after 1/2 series. Player like gurjap and kambooj started getting picked for A tours , development tours because they are from 1 of 3/4 big ipl side. tests and T20is are 2 diff sports. Test req. defensive batter and attacking bowlers.T20 req. attacking batters and defensive bowler. In t20 batters' life time there would be less than 10 occasion that they will get to play or survive 50 balls in an innings and in test facing 50 balls means batter would have hardly scored 20 -25 runs. Bhumrah was playing fc for his domestic side before ipl. Bowler who can sustain pace, get zip and bounce will succeed in all the formats. Test batting is about defence and endurance, there can be a batter who has all the shots but no endurance wont succeed in tests. Limited atter with good defence and endurance has more chances in test. T20 batting is about being super attacking and test batting is all about defence and endurance <-- these are 2 diff sports specially the new get t20 batters. Sgattick10 and Manucrick 2

He had a couple of decent games and RCB had to bring in Venky Iyer coz Padikkal wasn't able to make much of an impact. Patidar, Krunal and Tim David were the difference makers along with Venky when he was brought in.
