I know a name that starts with B  and ends with M much like Belgium  in cricket does the same thing. Bashes the weak opposition in bilaterals and shoot blanks  in the ICC events.

France vs Senegal. Should be interesting. France are one of hot favourites while Senegal who are African champions and dark horses. Would follw same pattern of spain vs cv. France holding 70% possession while Senegalese defend for their lives and counterattack when given A chance

Elite team like Italy has strucutral disadvantage.  Europe has the most  top dogs. So them missing out an curacao playing is such a bummer.

IMO we should push FIFA for 2 spots for South Asia as a separate region/conference. Let India, Pak, B'desh, Nepal, Bhutan, SL, Myanmar, Afg battle amongst each other for a spot or two. Surely this big a population (almost 2 billion) deserves two WC spots

FIFA doesn't understand the population power of South Asia. I know whole world watches football. Even without India's participation Qatar world cup had 745  million viewes from India. There is a massive market here in India.

We have to earn our quaification, just like how we have to earn our Olympic hosting rights by becoming a consistent 20+ medals nation. No free lunch.

FIFA is one of the greediest and the most corrupt organizations and much worse than ICC. The moment Indian middle class becomes more prominent, it'll be in their best interests to implement such a model. In fact add China as well in that South Asia group/conference. That's more than 3 billion people for maybe 2-3 spots. That's quite logical IMO if global representation was the point of having so many conferences and 48 teams in the WC. Give 3 spots to the region & countries I mentioned and you're talking about 3.3 billion people vying for those 3 spots. That's quite pragmatic.

We can improve by playing the Central and West Asian teams more often. This is too big a jump, will learn nothing, just get demoralized further and become a bigger joke than what we already are. 

 

Anyway one has got to deserve his or her spot at the high table. Tomorrow a 2200 FM can't go and demand to be included in the next supertournament with Carlsen, Caruana, Pragg, because those guys will give that FM knight odds, play blindfolded, with 1/10th of the time and still win easily. Nobody wants to watch Godzilla vs Bambi.

FIFA may be greedy, but they still gave Asia zone 9 or 10 spots. Same as Africa, more than South America. If we can't crack top 9 of Asia, what are we? Heck even Uzbekistan qualified and they were outside top 100 at one point. Even China qualified to 2002 WC, their women are world class. 

 

India is a pathetic sports nation, have to admit that. Pathetic in most things, but especially sports. 

 

Bangladesh and Afghans beat us last year, in fact they made us look like school kids. 

 

I don't ever want India to go with a begging bowling and be given an entry just for our market, that is the only thing we have, our huge population. I want India to earn her spot by being a top 9 Asian side, which shouldn't be that hard.

I have never understood Bangladeshis and Afghans dominating us in Football... Population, economics excuse also go out of the window there..

Few years back, Maldives used to toy with us. 5 lakh population now, where do they even have turfs to practice?

 

Diet of all our neighboring countries is better. Protein deficiency should be declared national emergency and countremeasures must be depoyed on war footing, but this regime will go the other way. Very soon, Nepal and BD will join Pak/SL in producing 90m+ throwers while we will still play replays of Neeraj's achievements. Anyway I don't think India can ever produce a Nahid Rana with daal chawal, khichdi ****.
