Abhishek Sharma - The Bowler

I feel we should groom Abhishek for the role of an all-rounder. He used to bowl a few overs during his Under-19 days or the early stages of the IPL, but he stopped bowling completely after the introduction of the 'Impact Player' rule. He could become a finisher like Yuvraj in ODI cricket.

Want to try him at No.6 in ODIs in place of Washington.

Yes,he is better option than useless washi.  He could be our finisher and can Bowl 4-5 overs.

Abhishek and Jaiswal should bowl 6 to 10 overs between them

Abhi, Jaisu, Tilak, all should bowl more. The only way they will improve is by actually bowling in live games, not just nets. Then we have Parag in the mix. 

 

So what if we have shortage of good spinners in the country? Apply the Aussie formula and get overs out of batsmen. Aussies looked invincible in 2015 WC with Maxwell as their sole spinner. Maxwell and Head got so many crucial breakthroughs in the 23 SF and F. In the past also, they have used Mark Waugh, Lehmann, Bevan, Symonds, Clarke etc. to good effect.

This 2013-23 generation screwed us over, with batters refusing to hone their bowling skills. Rohit, Kohli, Dhawan etc. didn't bring any secondary skill to the table...at least KL could keep !!!! Just the previous generation had so many part-time options. 

 

Look at SENA teams, with likes of Markram, Head, Root, Jacks, Livingstone, Labu, Maxwell, Phillips, Mitchell etc. chipping in now and then with their bowling.

If they bowl some overs between them,there would be no need of half baked allrounders and we can select specialist batsman and bowlers.

Fully fit Hardik is the only genuine white ball AR we have, and of course the mighty Jaddu in tests.

 

Baakiyon ko zabardasti AR banane ki koshish kar raha hai GG. In fact, as good and clutch as Axar is, I won't consider even him an AR, in any format.....he can't crack our 5th string team as batsman in white ball, and in red ball his bowling has gone down the drain.

If one has a bad day let another chip in. Like in the good old days with viru, Sachin, yuvi and Ganguly. These part timers always filled the void of an all rounder in the team

If we can get vaibhav, abhishek, Tilak, Shreyas and rinku to bowl regularly in t20s that'll solve the problem of a spinner in Australia where there's no need for an underwhelming specialist spinner who offers nothing with bat and in the field. Gives us an extra batsman.

in the next cycle when Roko wont be there..

Jswal will be one of the openers..

its also possible Sooryavanshi may rise 

so Gill may have to take Kohli’s position at number 3..

in that case Abhishek may not be an opener..so he will have to do what he did in U19 wcup.. be a lower order batting AR..

infact Vaibhav also has Left arm spin bowling potential and Jswal too should bowl more leg spin..

 

Ayush Mhatre..if continues to bat well he is a very handy off spinner

Abhishek does not have the technique or mindset to open in ODIs.

Have said this many times even in last match thread. Abhi can bowl decent. He has the knack of picking wickets.. In t20 he can bowl 2-3 overs easy even 4 on a good day and if he gets chance in ODI then 5-6 overs surely. But for that he needs experience of bowling in matches and not just in nets.
