"Stephen Fleming has been appointed England men's new Test head coach with Joe Root taking the unprecedented step of returning as full-time captain having relinquished the role in 2022.

 

Fleming, who left his longstanding role with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier this month, has signed a four-year deal with the ECB that will take him through until the end of September 2030. The former New Zealand captain is familiar with the English game following playing spells with Middlesex, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire - captaining the county to a Championship title in 2005 - and as coach of Southern Brave in the Hundred."

Lol, there was some fun talks of Fleming and McCullum swapping roles. Seems like may happen if McCullum ends up as new CSK head coach Lol.

In 2024  there was a rumor that Stephen Fleming was about to take the Indian coaching job but it turned out to be false. Nevertheless good luck to him in his new role as England Test coach

Defining partnership for CSK.. Dhoni probably will move on and Fleming decided that it was the right time

With regards to Root, I think it will only be till next Ashes and then they will find a young captain..

Backwards move by England.

 

Fleming has no real test credentials and giving him a 4 year contract is lunacy.

 

Will probably have to pay him off a year down the line when playing crap cricket and the losses mount up.

I doubt Rahul Dravid even applied for the England Test coach role. Honestly, if he had thrown his hat in the ring  there’s no way the ECB would be foolish enough to turn him down
