woah...c'mon Rajeev, it's got nothing to do with me rooting only for Punjabis, I would've have mentioned the same if it was Abhijeet in Sukhwinder's place, mere coincidence it was Sukh....look at my posts I've made about Bhajji on his foolish statements about winning 5/0 against NZ. Also I made a thread condemning that pedophile Maninder Singh Pandher....I'm not biased. I just had this doubt, read my topic, I'm not claiming ARR has done it on purpose....besides there is no solid proof about why his visa was denied...it does raise doubts. about my image on ICF, I shoot straight, no holding back...my biggest weakness is I don't make posts to keep mods & site owners happy or indulge in any chamchagiri...I think you are just getting too senti...take it easy....cheers

I have never heard a music director praising the singer while getting an award.Personally I thought A.R.R speech esp the bit about choosing love over hate was inspiring.I am so proud he is my countrymen.Thoda dil vada rakho veerji.

Depends on who the music director is and his stature vis a vis the singer. You seriously think RD Burman would not thank Kishore Kumar when the former would win the award?? The famed, and unique, music director Khayyam still thanks Asha Bhonsle for the National Award he won for Umrao Jaan. This is not to suggest that ARR did anything on purpose but yes it is always a nice thing to hear an awardee thank his team. On the other hand Gulzar has been completely dismissive of the award and has openly said this is an award for ARR and he and Sukhwinder merely tagged along...class act in my opinion. As for the point that nobody listens to the lyrics I beg to differ. The first time I listened to Jai Ho it caught my attention because of lyrics. ARR's music always takes time to grow, atleast on me, and I remember discussing this same topic a month or so ago. Jai Ho has some beautiful lyrics and in a weird way it is a shame that the music actually takes away from the wordings. Zarilwaale aasman ke tale, how many lyricist can write that today?? And how many listeners can understand it? Incidentally Sukhwinder Singh is also on record saying how the two words - Zarilwaale Aasman - simply blew him away. Lastly it is such a freaking shame that Indians have this Tamil-Hindi, Punjabi-Southie and all these hangovers. Worse is the fact that most of the morons who have this mentality have actually left India for greener pastures and keep driving a spear down India's, and Indians's, hearts. xxx

He needs to thank Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi, (those two just coz they are CMs, ex-CMs) Mani Ratnam (the director who identified his talent, and introduced ARR to the movie industry) Just kidding - ARR is a shy person so he does not talk much and "give a speech" etc, but what he is, is a musical genius. Well deserved award for one of the greatest music directors of all time.

Lurker when I talked about the lyrics, I said for people who do not understand hindi/urdu only thing that entertains them is the music. So it does not matter to these people who the singer or lyricist was for the song they like.

Thats a bit incorrect actually. He was making a fair bit of money doing the jingles (which still stand today in the case of Airtel, etc.) Mani Ratnam's sister was singing for him at the time, and she recommended him to Mani, and then Roja happened. Even during the shoot of Roja, he was still called Dileep. He decided to change his name when the movie was released.

Were you born yesterday? How do you compare music produced now to what was done in 40s, 50s and 60s. FOr me IR is the greatest of all, later comes RDB etc. Tell me, he is the greatest of this era...yes, I'd have to agree. It doesn't take much to beat Anu Malik, Pritam or even Sir Himesh.

But to the movie industry it was Roja that was the first biggie, and Mani Ratnam put his faith behind ARR for that. This was a time when Ilayaraja was the de facto King/Emperor of kollywood.

No doubting that. With regards to Mani, we're saying/arguing two different things. I said your initial statement about Mani finding Rahman was incorrect. Thats all. @CR, what makes you think that Rahman is great only when compared to others? He is great across the eras. But whatever suits you.
