M Vijay and Badrinath

Recommended Posts

Are we at all surprised that have not had a look in for what is, lets face it, a pretty much meaningless ODI tour. Nope.I guess winning would raise spirits etc which makes it not so meaningless. Vijay in particular (In my not so expert op) looks like he can be a good opener- solid and has got the strokes. Less sure about Badri but it was an ideal time for them to be given a run with the likes of Yuv and even MSD rested for at least 2 matches The team so far has had 2 allrounders and the main bowlers. Yesterday had Nayyar Pathan AND 4 bowlers. Unecessary given that Yuv and Rohit can bowl. And possibly suggesting that the team mgment think Jadeja and/or Nayyar are better batsmen than SB and MV...??

Vijay should be drafted in place of Rohit Sharma for the last match. Othwerwse there is no meaning for him being in the tour. Lets see what this man has to offer.. Also I'm not sur why Abhishek Nayyar was not given a signle over. If he was picked as an all rounder ahead of specialist batsmen like Badri or Vijay, then why was he not given a bowl (given that it was unlikely he'll get to bat in a rain shortened match)

someone should play instead of Rohit. I think the Indian team have something to prove after the poor outing at the T20 WC, they have to show some fight and show they're back on track to the stupid media and fans who were out for their blood. So they probably didn't want to experiment too much

The continued presence of Nohit Sharma in the team implies there is a clique of players who will always get picked whether performing or not. Sharma is obviously one of these as based on impartial performance criteria he would be nowhere near any international crricket team. Badrinath has played well domestically yet never been given a decent run. Gets picked for a squad here and there but never plays. Similar case with Vijay. What's the point in picking in-form players yet never giving them a chance to perform? I suspect the answer is in the first paragraph above...

Defo not suggesting there might be regional bias And not wanting to experiment in order to show that they can play sounds plausible- but playing Nayyar or both the other two bits and pieces players in YKP and RJ is quite experimenty. I do think M Vijay is better than Badri - he can bat at 3 or open with GG and D K can come in lower if needed, I think both should have played the whole series. With Yuvraj and MSD skippering 2 matches each

the problem with playing Vijay is our openers are set and playing reasonably well.If Rohit is playing at 3 then he can and should be replaced by Badri.
after yesterday Dhoni must come at 3.so that leaves no.5 n Badri is a better bet than Rohit atm.

There are some "pet player(s)" and they keep getting selected in the 11 despite not performing or performing only once in a rare bluemoon.

badrinath does not have the talent to be in indian international team for long, given a long run he might play a few decent innings but i would rather have rohit sharma over badri any day. vijay i agree should have got a game but we havent won the series so dont see him getting a game

Badri is more like a 'Dravidisque' kind a player and with Dhoni in the team we dont need another slow player. Though Vijay can be tried out...but with Sachin, Sehwag and Raina back, I dont think we will need both of these players... only place which is vacant in the team is of an allrounder... who can bowl fast and can bat good...

Badri is on the brink of being shelved into Indian history book. He will join the ranks of Suresh, Sharath, Neeraj Pate who missed out because they played in the same era of Dravid/Tendulkar/Laxman/Ganguly. Whenever he gets a chance he must make it count. Long rope may not be given to him due to his age. But between Vijay and Badri i must say Vijay looks much more authoritative at the crease. I am not talking about physical stature. Vijay looks more confident where as Badri looks over-cautious. But if Karthik continues his good work he might pip both of them and bunch of other youngsters to the post. Who would have thought. Few months back when we were discussing about Indian cricket future Karthik's name was never discussed. But he is really a spunky guy.He is mentally stronger than Badri. Credit to Karthik for scoring 1000 plus runs in domestic cricket. He has come back stronger. Badri should take a leaf out of Karthik's book. It is one thing to do well in domestic. It is another thing to translate that success at the international level.

^ True, but really Badri hasnt been given a chance to prove himself and see if he can translate to international level. His FC record is very good suggesting he is a handy player- he needs the chances- and this tour was the ideal time. We didnt need to wait until we won the series- frankly it was more important to blood these guys and even more important to rest the likes of Yuvraj and MSD - especially because actually this series is NOT that important. Its not like the first choice guys (Rohit) have been on fire Really then we can say for EVERY series that its too important to try new faces, lets go with a team thats imbalanced instead!- 4 main bowlers and 2 bits a pieces guys only 5 specialist bats and lets NOT try out two men who have done very well in Indias domestic competition and we have dragged out here for no reason. I still think M Vijay- as a lot of you guys have said- looks like a good bat and def should have played. Badri is a good accumulator and perhaps can play more of a role in test cricket. We'll never know though

Tbh Badrinath is a good player. I would put him for Rohit Sharma anyday. Just give Badrinath the same no. of oppurtunities Rohit had got and it would be clear who's better. You all must have remembered the Indo - lanka series where Murali and Mendis were giving hard times to Indian batsman. And in his very first match, Badrinath not only played sensible innings with good stroke play and technique and lead India to the win where even Yuvraj was struggling.
