sensible-indian Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 If we play 3-spin attack on raging turners, it is difficult for just one bowler to dominate; see e.g. WI pace quartet where max wkts per match was only 4.7 or so for Croft, and around 4 to 4.3 for the rest. Secondly, even he can be prone to losses of form. Started career very well against WI and others, and then, on home pitches, Captain Cook and co walloped him (one reason why we lost; since Pragyan Ojha was doing allright). Thirdly, getting wickets in SA and Eng won't be that easy - both will prepare green pitches when we tour, both to negate our spinner(s) and batsmen. WI yes. 1. Yes, 3 spinners at home means odds are lesser. Agreed. But he got a lot of wickets in that Aus home series when 3 spinners played every game. 2. Loss of form is a valid concern but solid technical base (which he has developed now) will lessen the odds. 3. England has pitches that aid spin decently (some tracks). Ashwin got 3/72 in his last innings there (and he was hardly as good as now). Even the green Lord's track spun big in the last day which Jaddu didn't exploit. England, SA have a good mixture of wickets. All aid pace. Some aid spin too. WI aids spin. Aus and NZ are graveyards. I am not saying Ashwin will get those 6 wickets a match (but he does have a ridiculous rate for getting 5fers and he will be bowling with a SG ball on rank turners/very good spin tracks a lot of times). I am just speculating talking about the pros and cons considering 1. Pitches 2. Ball used 3. Countries which help spin at some level

Avg of 52 tells its own story; was also expensive going at 3.1 an over when Ojha went for 2.4 and Jaddu at 1.7; even the googly bowler Chawla (with no legbreaks) went at 2.8 and avg much better. When did I say it meant much? The point was he could still bowl the good ones but his other deliveries were bad that no pressure could be created.

HippoSucks Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 All of these records are far away. Many bowlers start off really well and then dwindle down. Ashwin has done well in quite a few tests but it is still too early to predict how he will do.

Doesn't appear very interested in batting based on evidence this series. Came, threw his bat around, hit-and-giggle and then left.
