Jadoo Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Really good film and thoroughly enjoyable, but what else would you expect with the real king Khan and Mr Hirani teaming up. Best hindi film I have seen in a while.
DomainK Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I read that agreement too' date=' but after seeing this interview, I can understand the writer's POV as well. Would love to read the book now to see how much of the movie is actually based on the book. If it is significant, they should have given him a better credit than the rolling one even if that is all the agreement says they need to give him.[/quote'] The Bourne trilogy give full credit to Ludlum even though all three movies have entirely different screenplays from the original novels. Except the first few scenes in the first movie (may be 5 minutes), everything else is different. But they never failed to give credit to Ludlum.

ViruRulez Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 3 Idiots hits 160 crore net Three Idiots has now hit the 160 crore nett mark as it grosses around 2.75-3 crore on Tuesday. The business on Tuesday was around 10% lower then Monday. The week should end with Three Idiots hitting the 165 crore nett mark and it is likely to do add a further 30-45 crore nett in the weeks after. This would give it lifetime nett business in the 195-210 crore range. There were two new releases last week but both were fairly small films, this week the film will face competition in the form of Chance Pe Dance which is the first major release of the year.
Texy Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 just spotted Omi Vaidya on the recent most episode of the show "better off TED" on ABC
Holysmoke Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 ^ He's the tech support surd in the office, and he also had a role in Arrested Development..
veer Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I am leaning more towards chetan bhagat side.. movie has lots and lots similiarity with the book then they should have given him better credit.. the soul of the movie is coming from book then one should give credit.. first time I am disappointed with Aamir..

ViruRulez Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 3 Idiots breaks record for highest fourth weekend Three Idiots sets another record as it has it highest ever fourth weekend. The early estimates for the weekend are of around 10 crore nett business. Approx breakdowns for the weekend are 2.25 crore nett for Friday, 3.25 crore nett for Saturday and 4.50 crore nett for Sunday. This takes the films business to 176 crore nett till the end of business on Sunday. The distributor share is 92 crore approx. Three Idiots should add another 7 crore nett over the weekdays for a record fourth week total of around 17 crore nett. This would take the four week business to 183 crore nett. 3 Idiots has broken perhaps every record in Indian box office including highest grosser all time, highest net all time, highest overseas gross and net, highest first week, second week, third week, first day, first weekend, second weekend, third weekend and every other record. :icflove: The 3 big movies in the last week viz. Pyaar Impossible, Chance Pe Dance and Dulha Mil Gaya have already been smashed by 3 Idiots and all of them are big flops including Pyaar Impossible which is a YashRaj movie. Aamir, Vidhu and Raju combination are simply creating history and setting new standards for Bollywood. :eyedance:

If it is significant, they should have given him a better credit than the rolling one even if that is all the agreement says they need to give him.[/quote'] After watching the movie, it was obvious that a significant number of scenes were in the book. The movie's "plot" was more elaborate, but the college scenes were most certainly based on the book. More significantly, the character "Raju Rastogi" was straight out of the book - to the T. That said, the publishers/Bhagat should have secured their self-interest way ahead of time and in more detail. They shouldn't have signed a final agreement until they knew exactly how it was going to be done - in excruciating detail. If the only agreement with the producers was that they would be in the rolling credits no matter what, then that's that - they got suckered into a con, and have only themselves to blame. Think before you ink.
Texy Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 I think it is confirmed now... that whatever Aamir Khan will touch will turn into gold...box office gold that is...regardless of what the plot line is.... people believe in him to make good movies... ViruRulez Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Reviving an old thread as it is related to the news I am posting. 3 Idiots was finally released in China a couple of weeks ago and is a hit there too collection 11 crores in just two weeks which is great for a foreign film and especially Indian. As most people already know, China screens foreign films and only allows 20 movies a year and so, it took a long time to enter the Chinese market. With this, 3 Idiots has now also broken the all time overseas box office record for any Bollywood film till date. Aamir still rocks. ;) 3 IDIOTS from the Vinod Chopra Films camp has broken all records to become the highest grossing film in the overseas market. The Aamir Khan-Sharman starrer has won the hearts of the Chinese audience, who cannot get enough of the Phunsuk Wangdu and the Ranchodas Chanchad characters played by Aamir. 3 IDIOTS, which released in India in 2009, was released in China just two weeks back with only 900 prints. The movie has become an instant hit there and has collected around Rs 11 Crore in just 14 days. A delighted CEO, Sameer Rao, talking on behalf of Vinod Chopra Films, said, "Mainland China is the second biggest film market after the US but it is very difficult to enter because only twenty foreign films can be screened in China in a year. After its success in just two weeks, the VCF camp has built high hopes that the movie will have a very long run in the Chinese market." Anil Arjun, the CEO of Reliance Media Works, said, "The message in the film has been the pull factor in the film. Such a great response from a non-traditional territory like China is a welcome phenomenon for the Hindi film Market." This extra ordinary success in the Chinese Market has made 3 IDIOTS the highest grossing movie in the overseas market with a total of Rs. 121 Crore. The success of 3 IDIOTS has opened doors to other Indian movies in the Chinese market. Audrey Lee, the owner of the Chinese Distributor Firm Ekdo Films, said, "Films from various countries are given a chance to be released in China under the quota system. As 3 IDIOTS is doing very well, Indian Films now have a better chance to be released in China. The local distributors too shall try hard as they have seen the response an Indian film can get." http://in.news.yahoo.com/3-idiots-collects-rs-11-crore-two-weeks-060116865.html :aha:
