coffee_rules Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Nayagan was well made. But being a hardcore fan of Godfather i feel it loses its value due to lack of originality. Actually, not much was borrowed, unlike the umpteen Hindi movies, even Aamir Khan had acted ln one, where the whole plot was copied. Mani Ratnam had indianised the script very well. Esp, the flashback scenes which were shot in a different toned film...was unique at that time. Of course, older Kamal had nakal-maroed Brando's Don Corleone very well.

Was funny and emotional.. a touching story about true love. The instrumental version of the theme song is awesome... Best to ignore all the cliches and enjoy the movie for what it is. :D

audioman Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Invictus - 6/10 Could have and should have been a lot more dramatic. It is a great story and should have been told with greatness and a lot more drama instead of being such a straight-jacket one. Made me wish Aaron Sorkin had adapted it.

One reason Nayagan didn't work for me as much as some of his other movies was Kamal did overact a lot. Infact in his movie pagal nilavu itself Maniratnam touched this concept briefly. Most of the maniratnam movies have some source of inspiration. His movie Mouna Raagam has lot of inspiration from the Mahendran movie Nenjathai Killathe. Terrific movie that was.
