Went south all the way. Piled on the pounds and got a wee lil tummy now. Time to push myself hard.

I started gaining weight in 2006-2007, steadily and slowly. I started feeling that have gained weight in 2008, I was 72 then waist size 34, when I used to be around 65 2 years back, went to gym, did intense exercise nothing happened, did not lose at all and after that in last 6 years, I tried everything I could to lose, but no result. I had gained 20 Kg from 2008 till March 2014, 92 from 72 and still there was no way I could lose anything no matter how intensive aerobics I was doing. But in March I went doctor, he asked me to do thyroid test and then I got to know the reason that I cannot lose weight no matter what I do but still gained. I had a high TSH level, sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Thyroid is a gland which is extremely sensitive and little variation in TSH can affect functions of your body dramatically. The ideal TSH level is between 2-3, I was at 5.9 though it was too high from reference range of 5, but if you have anything over 3, it start showing symptoms like slow pulse rate, excessive sleepiness, fatigue, weight gain, hair fall, hair greying, dry skin, etc. and I had developed most of the symptoms. I started taking Thyroid pills from April 1 and since then I have lost 10 kg in about a month with low calorie diet and exercises which had never happened before even when I had done more intensive exercises than I am doing right now.

i cant shakeoff my tummy, hovering around 98kilos now..have to reduce 9 kilos per bmi. My mass adding workouts are not helping either, upper body keeps getting bigger , tummy stays knees are weak. Very minimal cardio ability, under BP medication. Its a bit of a trap.. I used to be able to keep shape 5 years back with just weight training but now i just grow in upper body (muscle) but core strength is not improving neither is fitness and because of weight addition my knees are getting weaker and i am more unfit to play tennis. Sucks.

I lost five kilos in six weeks just from eating Japanese food. Eating Japanese food and lots of walking - The walking came from that fact that I was holidaying there and was visiting a lot of sightseeing places.

Dude loosing wt is good but 10kg in a month is can be risky especially since you are on thyroid medication . Pls consult your physician regarding this & your diet & workout routine. Also ask him to speak with your trainer.

I am not fasting. I am eating very low calorie diet, kelloggs, oats, salads, home cooked food just once a day. No outside food. No fast food. Neither I go to gym. I do exercises at home. No weights, just cardio. I weighed on March 23 and I wad 92 then I started the diet. I started taking thyroid med from April 1 and started exercising and I went to doctor on April 21 and I weighed 85 then. I lost weight further after that. Still need to lose 10 more kilos. Need to be around 70. I could not have lost any weight without thyroid meds.

Thyroid hormones do increase the metabolic rate of the body causing it to utilize the cals faster . If you are taking low calorie diets in addition to them it can cause drastic wt.reduction which can be detrimental. So instead of low calorie diet have a balanced diet without the fast foods , oily stuff & try to gradually increase your workout

In normal circumstances, the Resting Metabolism kicks in when the digestive system is inactive (postabsorptive state in med term). The reason for your weight loss is that your digestive system quickly goes to postabsorptive state, burning the energy from your body and only the energy required for functioning vital organs will be preserved, usually happens while you sleep or on fasting days. It's perfectly normal as the body has a lot of time to do all these things. The risk here is, thyroid meds drive the body to do all these things quicky. The body might lose energy and stamina on this. It's okay to take the medication, but my advise dont make it as a habit. If your physician prescribes to take the meds for a month, please don't get the tablets by urself after a month and continue with it. I suggest you to eat slowly, chew your food properly before swollowing. Pls avoid alcohol at any cost while you are on medication, and avoid chocolates, icecreams, soft drinks, oily chicken/mutton fries, pav bhajiis and pani puris. Use more garlic for cooking :two_thumbs_up: Don't do weight exercises.

I have stopped eating street food or fast food containing high oil content for the last 50 days, high sugar contents, and less amount of salt. Not doing weights right now, only cardio, crunches, etc. I might have lost 10-15 kilo during this time. Taking thyroid med for last 40 days. Will check TSH again at the end of this month then doctor will see if regular medication is needed or not.
