We need a Fully fit team. Team anagement needs to understand when we have half of our 1st team batters out they cant afford to play 6 batsmen. This isnt rocket science that they are taking so long to get this fact. Jadeja is a bowler who can hang around for some time on his best, but you cant expect him to 'score' runs. He is not a ODI kinda batsman. Batting is our strength we need to play 7 batsmen.

Jadeja is a "Dhobi ka Kutta, Na Ghar na Ghat ka", people like Jadeja, Yousuf Pathan, reminds me of 90s when half of the Indian team used to have similar kind of players who used to "deliver" :D once a year to keep their spot. We are better of playing with 7 batsmen + 4 bowlers

But according to MM' date=' he should bowl at the death and in PPs. :winky:[/quote'] Lol, quote one post of mine where I said Jadeja should bowl in the death overs. And while you’re at it, quote another post of mine where I say I prefer Jadeja over Bhajji, Ojha, Ashwin, in the power-plays. :P I still think a spin-oriented attack in low-slow pitches that take turn is our best chance to win the WC, rather than pack our side with 3 seamers on absolutely interstates of pitches and hope our batsmen bail us out. I’ve campaigned for more spin, but never said I want Jadeja to be an absolute part of it. Jadeja would be 4th choice specialist spinner in the Indian side, after Bhajji, Ojha and Ashwin. :P

Jadeja will play in final and this maybe his last match of year 2010.
I won't be surprised if that may turn out to be last of his carrier too, having talent and not able to deliver is fine, we can give time to those but Jadeja has no talent, Remember, in 20/20 and ODI, if you are going to bowl, you will get wicket, you don't need skill to get wickets in these formats

poor kid,you dont really know the reality.Jadeja has a place in this team as long as Dhoni is the captain.

Lol it works the other way. You want to solve your weakness and further enhance it.( the bowling)

It is 100% true................. Jadeja is not an all-rounder

I kind of agree w/ Andy's statement in theory of strengthening our strength to cover up for weaknesses. In theory, bowling is our weakness because we cannot put together 4 good bowlers. And then if the all-rounder isn't any good at bowling than the 4 specialists then it compounds the problem rather than solving it. As now you have 5 poor bowlers and 6 good batmen. Let's say of the 4 specialist, you have 2 good bowlers, and 2 poor ones, if you still play a bowling all-rounder who is neither a good bowler nor a good batsman then you are still not solving the problem. But playing at Dambulla, I am not too sure on what our weakness is. The batting has struggled except Sehwag, while our bowling has been able to bundle out the other teams. Therefore, I am not too sure, if playing a 7th batsman like Rohit (who could potentially struggle too) is a good idea than playing a specialist bowler, who could potentially be more effective at Dambulla and make up for our batting failure.

I think it is futile to look for an all rounder in Jadeja...the best bet is still Irfan. He was a genuine all rounder and looks low in confidence now. If I were to choose, go for 6 batsman in subcontinent rather than having a half @$$ all rounder in position 7. It is simple he cannot win matches at 7 nor can he win matches by his bowling performance (may be 1 in 50 chances)...so why persist with him

I agree with your post especially the fact that you realize that this question is unsolvable and therefore we can always be unsure. The fact is this is like a billion dollar question of which combination should India play. And the difference between us (the fans and the media) and the selectors along the captain is, we(fans + media) will always react based on hindsight. If we play 7 batsman and 4 bowlers, score 300 for 4 runs while batting first but lose the match due to our poor bowling especially with the very poor part timers bowling, we including you and me will criticize the team selection that we should have played an extra bowler. This has happened many times in the Ganguly era. Similarly, 5 specialist bowlers played and we bat and score only 100. We will criticize for the lack of batting in our team xi. This is what has happened in this series. However the fact is, in this dhoni era, we have been playing 5 specialist bowlers and we have won a lot of ODIs and probably this few last years have been our best ODI period and performances over the last 10 years. So this is where, my question comes to why suddenly change. And if one has to decide, he should rather support the team decision to play whatever combination than make his own arguments on which is better like how many of you are saying about 7+4. I supported Ganguly with his decisions, and similarly will do for Dhoni as I know they definitely know more about cricket than you or me as a lot is done behind the scenes.

Jadeja made his debut in Feb 2009. Since then, in matches involving Jadeja, we have won 17 lost 16 for a W/L of 1.06. In matches not involving Jadeja we have won 7 and lost 3 for a W/L of 2.33. And calling Jadeja a specialist bowler is frankly a joke.

Stats tell you nothing. If I tell you a player has a 100% record in winning matches, would you play him? Maybe but what if I hide from you is that he has only played one match just to bring some random stats. The reality is for the first time we can go to any world cup with rightfully considering ourselves as favorites. Of course, according to our media and us, we should always win the WC. But this is really the first time where we can actually say we deserve it and the opponents are also scared of us. This is if not a golden period in our ODIs history imo. This has come under Dhoni era And a specialist bowler is someone who bowls 10 overs, it is that simple and Jadeja does that well.
