While this post is NOT about short-pitch ball, i did not want to open another thread for this - so just adding this to "Raina in Test cricket" Temperament and Patience are key in Test cricket. Hope Raina learns this from our other middle order legends in current team. ((I know Dravid chased one outside off like a noob in the match - thats awful too)) Raina has the talent, but seems to lack the PATIENCE/temperament - a key in Test cricket. He was playing ODI mode, fielder brought closer, tries to go over the top. This is what Punter wanted Raina to do (Bangalore-Test2, India 1st Inn) and he does that. Temperament? Patience? Raina boy, come on this is no longer ODI/T20! We got Sehwag who has license to see-ball-hit-ball. One is enough. Raina needs to be a bit more patient in Tests. This is not a dig on Raina, I just hope he picks this from our legends soon. He has a test century (so respect) - but he was not patient against Malinga sometimes in the last Test, and here he fell into Punter's ploy.

While today's dismissal is to a spinner - just writing the observation in this thread: Raina has scored good runs in Tests, is there any reason why of late Raina's temperament in Test matches seems to be like that of Bangle Boy Ashrafool!?? :mad: (I'm not comparing their talent - obv. Raina is superior esp. in ODIs - but in Tests - temperament is crucial)

Too much Tontee-Tontee nonsense cricket makes it a habit for players to jump up and play a rash shot. I've sometimes seen Gautam Gambhir used to play such rash ones to get out once upon a time, and then he learnt to curtail those Tontee-Tontee like instincts. Hopefully, this is a lesson learnt and he (Raina) values applying himself and staying at the crease to earn runs the hard way. He should learn that from someone like Laxman who bats just one position above him.

Too many Brain freezes, something you don't expect from him as he shown himself to be a calm batsman under pressure in ODIs. Needs to turn it around in the next innings. Raina's place is very safe for this tour and the SA tour also... If he can manage an average of 40+ at the end of SA tour, he will continue but otherwise he may be be dropped as a tested material!!!!! For tests, I always thought that Pujara/Rahane and Kohli/RGSharma are much more suited than Suresh Raina although he might prove me wrong!!!!!

He has had one brain freeze in this innings and probably one in the Aussie test match. Give him a break people. He has 3 fifty plus scores in those 9 innings and the one he had 40 plus was because there were no more runs to score.

0, 32, 3, 0, 20..In his last 5 innings, he has got starts in 2 innings and thrown it away both the times through bad shots. Looked edgy in the other innings. No one's denying the great start he had. But given the competition in the side, he cannot afford further slip ups as his place in the team is not yet cemented. Too many equally good candidates fighting for that spot. There are guys who have scored 100s and 50s to help the team win in their last test and are sitting on the bench , there is someone who scored a 50 in his last test innings and is not in the 15, and then there are others like Rahane, Rohit who are piling on the runs in domestic cricket. Needs to arrest the slide quickly or else may soon lose his spot in the test 11.

He's been playing international cricket for a long time, moving to Tests from ODIs shouldn't be a huge transition for him. He needs to buckle down and play some sensible innings. Find his strengths and play according to them

just doesnt look suited for tests.plays far too aggresively at spinners n looks in a hurry.with pacers his short ball technique seems the problem.thats too much to bear given we have very good options.his FC record isnt great too.so there's no indication he can play this format better than other candidates.people talk about less chances,how chances did Pujara have?2 n he made a match winning 72 in one of those.why was he dropped?why not give chances to him Raina is no doubt an ODI star,but that doesnt mean he is good for tests too

I have no doubts that he'll bounce back, most probably in this series itself but TBH, it's better if he plays only LOI for a while. We should rather play Pujara in tests for him. He obviously can return when one of our big guns retire, by that time he'll have gained more experience and will be more matured player.

He looked class till got out. Gorgeous drives. Brain farts can be stopped, very poor technique or lack of abilty cant! That cow to 6 is one of his best shots. Will have to not play it in tests, unless field is in or scored a ton and cruising. He will come good has loads of abilty.
