I watch a movie after months and I pick this based on this bleddy thread :banghead: To all those who want to watch .. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. I for one watching was constantly into it, even though throughout the whole movie nothing happens. Its good to see movies like this once in a while.

Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 alright i watched it nothing special. not as low as a 0/10, but i wouldnt much higher than that anyway its impossible to understand whats going on. maybe thats because THERE IS NOTHING GOING ON. the killing scene of the dhobi's brother was totally unnecessary and had nothing to do with the story, the only reason why it was thrown in there was because the audience was completely lost at that point and the movie had no other way to move forward. they could have just ended the movie before that even happened. cheapest trick in the book from unimaginative thinkers - playing on raw emotion in desperation to pump some life into a lame story.. it was always obvious where the story was headed. the girl with the video camera wasnt contributing anything other than a depressing and should i say, pseudo-artistic, feel to the movie...to sustain that feeling of sadness that u are supposed to have while watching this ****. pointless. this is the movie in a nutshell: a lame, bollywood inspired formulaic storyline typically featuring some confused american girl having feelings for two guys, set to artistic undertones with very uninspiring, run of the mill dialogue. you wont have a clue what you are watching and how any of it makes sense, and u will find it impossible to feel anyting for the characters. aamir might as wel have shot a film about his own day to day life, right from the time he wakes up in the morning, has his coffee, goes to the studio, 'til the moment he goes back to bed. would have been just as 'interesting' as this movie. casting was crap. whoever hired that guy to play the dhobi was an idiot. makes u wonder whether the producers have even been to a real dhobi ghat

Well..this is the state of direction talent in Bollywood. Kiran Rao worked as a assistant director for years and what she could create is this mediocre work.

There are activities that involve intellect ( work, chess, cards, maths, debating against me :P) and those that don't. Movie watching is the latter. Movies are supposed to entertain. Or at least I think so. On the aspect of 'reality', If I were to take my digicam and film the scene at the grocer down the road for 25 mins its very real. 100% realistic movie. But it won't entertain. At least not me. The whole idea of a movie is to use some creativity to deviate from reality to entertain. Isn't it?

All I'm looking for is creativity and originality. Even the plot needn't be original, just the storytelling. I despise Bollywood and Tollywood because they are just so glaringly lacking in these two departments.

flamy Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Good movie. A solid 7 for me. Considering most bollywood is a -11, that's quite an improvement :woot: A regular, linear drama. People who love this movie should check out Eric Rohmer. People who hate this, shouldn't :D
