Here's a better view of what the harness looks like. The guy tightening it is the one who will be attached to me for the duration of the jump. They do all the hard work, you just (try to) sit back and enjoy the ride. See the backpacks in the background ? Thats where the parachute goes.

They gave you glasses that you can wear over on top of the reading glasses. You have a choice of wearing your glasses during the jump. I declined and did the jump without them.

Membership into the Australian Parachuting Federation (can't remember the exact name) as a student parachutist. 2. Training --- How to exit the plane, body position during free fall etc. They even let you control the parachute on the way down. 3. 30 minute ride to the flight altitude. 4. 45 seconds of free fall -- during this period, you simply fall from the plane. 5. 5 minute parachuting ride once the free fall is over. 6. The whole thing captured on DVD, from lift off to the ENTIRE OF FREE FALL to your parachuting back to the hanger. --- Also, they have a weight limitation of 90 Kg. They charge extra if you're over 90 and the maximum they can take is around 120 odd Kilos. Also, the jumps are heavily dictated by weather. Bad weather may force the jump to be postponed. If there is heavy cloud cover say, 1. The instructor would not be able to see the hangar amidst all the fog 2. Heavy wind gusts may violently sway your parachute from side to side.

There is a lot of training you have to do before they allow you to perform the jump by yourself. If I remember correctly, each sky diver owns his own parachute. Btw, the parachute ride back to the hangar can be scarier than people think. If there are wind gusts, your parachute can get violently swayed from side to side.

On the day of the jump, you call them 1 - 2 hours prior to check whether the weather is safe enough to allow the jump. Cloudy weather can be a serious problem as the instructor will not be able to see the hangar. The weather down at the hangar and at 10, 000 feet can be completely contrasting. For instance, the first picture is taken at 10, 000 feet as I am about to exit the plane. All I can see are clouds and blue skies. But than, contrast that to the ground conditions as I parachute down. Cloud everywhere.

The second best part is when you open the door, feel the wind against your face and think to yourself ... **** yea, this is it, lets DO IT. I haz done para-sailing and it was fun Thats next on my bucket list.
