Sachin=GOD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Let me tell you..we'll do alright in next few games.Just bring ashwin instead of chawla and give sreesanth another chance and yes we'll keep on belting runs with our lineup no matter what opposition we play. yeah, keep giving him chances again and again and he'll keep giving lots and lots of runs in every match :headshake:
Bumper Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Completely disagree with the OP. If we are playing a best of seven series a' la the NBA finals, then i may agree with the OP. As you can expect the mighty Indian batting to rake up 350+ scores on 3-4 occasions in such a series (even that is doubtful against better attacks). But with three knockout games lined up to win the world cup, you got to account for off days (or if not off days, at least a less than superlative performance) in one of those games. I dont see how India can get away with not being able to defend a 325ish score. You dont need a great bowling attack to defend 338. Just a competent one, backed by a good fielding unit would do. The sheer weight of the runs will do the rest (as we saw when England started to collapse). India should look to score 325ish & defend it. Flipping this around, what if we bowl first ? Accepting a poor attack would mean we may have to chase down 350ish every time. Thats a non starter. You dont win world cups chasing down 350+ targets in QF, SF & F. Aint happening!
goose Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Everyone seems uncomfortable with the idea that 325 might not be enough or is merely a par score. Why? India were 50 runs short yesterday regardless of the actual figure they ended up with and thus the batting needs to come in for scrutiny.

In many games, you would think that a team is heading for 350 odd but usually, it would end up with less .... what you think a team would get and what is gets are two different things :winky:

goose Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 they bodged it again. good starts mean you go harder with each over.
Sooda Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Dhoni should be very disappointed with 338 given the foundation India had. The old adage of targeting twice your 30 over score as long as you have 8 wickets in hand still applies. With India's talent they need to be 200/2 after 30 overs as a minimum. Also' date= if the powerplay is such a curse then why not take it in overs 15-20 thus creating 20 overs of uninterrupted fielding restrictions? :D Hope they stick to the rest of your strategy Of course it will only work at home. I do wish that wickets were a TAD less flatter. As wonderful as it is , as an Indian to watch them smash Steyn and co. There is nothing like a good contest between bat and ball..
Sooda Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 they bodged it again. good starts mean you go harder with each over. Then you lose wickets innit? this is ok. Consolidated with MSD, Yuvraj and Pathan to come
coffee_rules Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 6.72 after 32...No botching..I think they are just savin wickets for PP3 and last 10 overs.. Shd go for PP3 now...
goose Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 When Sehwag fell they could have afforded to carry on in the same vein. Still not convinced by the consolidation theory.
goose Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 When India are 345 for 8 it will look like we needed the consolidation. That is just an illusion brought on by good batsmen forced to hit 15 run cameos at the death.
ravishingravi Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 When Sehwag fell they could have afforded to carry on in the same vein. Still not convinced by the consolidation theory. I think India have missed a trick. This game is shaping up like the England one. When you have power hitters like Pathan, Dhoni, Yuvraj in the line up, you have to bring them up. Gambhir is a good player but not one to pulverise the attack. Ideally, these 3 should have been brought up with Tendulkar playing the sheet anchor and them attacking. If tendulkar gets out then bring Kohli or Gambhir up. I genuinely believe India is wasting its excessive batting resource which in any case has to fire to protect its lack of bowling resource.
goose Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 Consolidate when the going is good and go safe at the death. A very Indian innings.
zen Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Looking at this thread, it feels as if Ind is suppose to get 400+ in every game :giggle: W/ the strategy outlined in here, Ind would fail to cross even 300 more often than not :P

Btw the question is not about getting 400, the question is about making the best of your resources and getting the balance right.

Parth Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 There is no strategy, they just go out there and play rubbish shots
zen Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 There is no strategy' date=' they just go out there and play rubbish shots[/quote'] And batting powerplay showed what could happen if we do that (mindless batting) :giggle:
vvvslaxman Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 This is good for theory. This is not for practical. Because you automatically assume every new batsman who walks in would do exactly the same the previous batsmen do. That is never the case. Some batsmen might struggle. Best approach is always one batsman should stay till the end and other should hit around him till 45th over.
