yoda Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Now this group really opens up.. WI and BD should worry. And should I say England as well?? You forgot us? :winky: Seriously speaking, we should be ok, but the lower rungs in this group definitely seem more formidable than those in the other group.

kabira Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 WE beat Ireland and England beat SA, will be fun group then and Bangers beat WI
Ultimate_Game Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Congrats to the Irish team and the Irish fans. They have been the story of the tournament so far. They were pretty impressive against B'desh and now they have beaten Eng while chasing 327!!! Clearly ICC has a major head-ache on their hands. Ireland has shown that they belong on the world stage with their performance in the last two world cups - they beat Pak and B'desh in 2007 and have beaten Eng this time round! Hope ICC reconsiders its decision not to have associate nations at the world cup because Ireland clearly deserve to be there.
flamy Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I love Ireland. They were always my fave, but this is just bluddy brill. And I know they are absolutely ecstatic abt this cuz it is England :D
jusarrived Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 thats because they've beaten the English. If it had been any other big team' date=' be it India or Aus or SA etc then most probably it may not have made for such big news in Ireland.[/quote'] whet ever the reasons its good for the sport imo
NareshK Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Hope ICC reconsiders its decision not to have associate nations at the world cup because Ireland clearly deserve to be there. Ireland wont be an associate nation in 4 years time if they continue the way they are playing at the moment. And I also feel the best way to build a good team would be to play more matches against the top sides in ODIs and 3 day matches rather than play against them directly in a WC tournament. If I'm not mistaken, most of the Irish players also play in country cricket, dont they ? I think that's how they have improved. Teams dont improve if they get to play Australia or India once every 4 years. It should be a continuous process of playing and learning against quality cricketers. ICC should get the test teams to play against associate nations a lot more if they are serious about promoting the game.
kabira Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 well they will have only 1 associate member and best one is Ireland, considering Zimbabwe will become test playing nation soon.
Ultimate_Game Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Ireland wont be an associate nation in 4 years time if they continue the way they are playing at the moment. In that case ICC will still need to make a decision to change Ireland's status from "Associate" to "Full Member"

Looks like they will be the 10th team in 2015.
Mariyam Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Congratulations Ireland. This side not only has the necessary aptitude to challenge the bigger sides but also the attitude to go with it. I'm guessing TOI will have a cheesy headline like in tomorrow's edition: Irish coffee drowns English cookie or Kevin O'Brien hammers England black, blue and pink
King Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 From 111/5 after 25 overs to chasing down 327 and a century off 63 balls is just amazing. There's been plenty of good knocks in the cricket world cup but to me this is the best ever knock in a world cup. There's been few good ones from Ponting, Viv, Tendulkar, A DeSilva, Gilly, Hayden, Kapil Dev, Inzamam and a couple others but this one for me is the best ever knock. Well above any other knock in the world cup so far.

vvvslaxman Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Reactions from Irish fans http://www.cricketeurope4.net/CEIRELAND/GENERAL/forum.shtml Date: 2/3/2011 Author: Brian Hamilton THE BATTLE OF BANGALORE Come one and come all and I'll tell you a tale About a team dressed in Green with a mountain to scale They bowled and the Fielded but to no avail And Three Twenty Seven put them firmly in jail They came out to bat looking eager and brash But one through to five were gone in a flash Then out came O'Brien a giant of a man With what looked like a cannon But it was a bat in his hand He started his assault with nothing to lose And partnered by Cusack they started to cruise As the weary English wilted with shot after shot This incredible partnership got Ireland on top Oh no it was broken but no need to worry In came Mooney and things continued to hurry And as they soldiered on we continued to run it But sadly for O'Brien just fell short of the summit Enter Johnston with Mooney to Earn their fresh bread So the end of O'Brien would not lead to dread A swat from Mooney with six balls to go Sent Ireland delirious and the champagne did flow And now I have come to the end of my tale There are many green hero's for us all to hail They fought to the end for to cause an upset And provided us with a day we will never forget COME ON IRELAND
vvvslaxman Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Here is another reaction Date: 2/3/2011 Author: Alan I always knew we could do it i managed to persuade my teachers to let my school watch the match and I was delighted with the response of the 300 other students cheering on every boundary I always knew this was going to be the game we would beat the auld enemy in what a fantastic innings from kevin o brien truly inspired performance who would of thought that an Irish man holds the world record for the fastest century in world cup history and when england scored 327 it looked daunting at 111 for 5 great performance it will live in my memory forever as david llyod said Irish eyes are smiling im certainly smiling well done to all the lads India watch out on sunday we have nothing to lose and all to gain finally OUR DAY HAS COME Amazing

One of the best, yes.
vvvslaxman Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Kapil's 175 is always going to be the best knock ever. Nothing can come near it. Next i would say Gilly's 149 which sent my spine chilling.
King Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Over reaction to call it the best ever knock. The pitch is flat like a cookie sheet' date=' esp in the second innings, plus the boundary is small. One of the best, yes.[/quote'] Why is it over reaction? 100+ runs from a minnow nation batting second and chasing over 300 runs. Scoring the fastest 100 in a world cup and from 111/5 half way through to pretty much seeing the game off. It's not like the rest of the grounds on which the world cup has been played over the years have all been at MCG. Bowling attack consisted of full strength England attack as well. Just imagine if Tendulkar, Sehwag, Sangakkara or Younis Khan did this :omg: All hell break lose. There has been so many great players in the past and how come they don't hold the fastest WC 100 record then? On top of that this is the highest ever run chase in a world cup. Moreover the only 100 that came in this game is this one. Also note the second highest score of Ireland's inning was 47. This was utter domination by one man and that changed the course of the match.
