So yes that 78 of 108 is something exceptional considering the circumstances. Easily the finest T20 knock I have bettering Hussey in last world cup. But yep as someone else said u can't really compare a t20 innings with an ODI knock that too played 30 years ago. I mean u can't even conclusively compare two ODI knocks 30 years apart considering the changes happened so comparing a T20 knock is bit far fetched IMO.

There is nothing to say any of the great WI batsmen of the bygone era( maybe bar Viv ) would have become as good as Gayle in T20. So it goes both ways imo

That GordoN Greenidge/RIchard partnership of 226 came in 26 overs. They got to 333 in 45 overs. those kind of stats were unreal those days.. Even now 333 in 45 overs is quiet a difficult task.

This is nothing because Samuels was unknown player while everyone knew what Greendige and Viv could do but Samuels innings just surprised everyone because they never expected that onslaught.

Not comparing Samuels innings. That is truly a good innings. It was a pretty good surface for SL bowling. They had all the ingredients to exploit it. Slower bowlers were difficult to target. But Mahela provided perfect pace required for Samuels. He made mincemeat out of it. 11 balls from Malinga to Samuels earned him half his runs . 39 that is. It is much like Kallicharan's 35 runs in 10 balls against Dennis Lillee.

Executioner Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Some bangladeshi noobs where telling that there arent as many stars in cricket as there was a long time ago :facepalm; If you look at T20, there are stars everywhere, for examples, WI alone has gayle, pollard, samuels, bravo, narine.......all who are so critical in T20s. Russel and sammy are also useful players so yes, they are good T20 players as well...though didnt get much chance
