Virat Kohli - Test Cricket Watch thread!

My observation of his innings in this series and the last few series has been that he just isn't as charged up when playing tests. You don't see the cursing under the breath when he gets out, of the fist pumps when he hits those difficult boundaries or any of the emotion that he is generally associated with. Even while fielding, he seems very distant, almost distracted. Compare this to his in your emotions at the T20WC, where he almost cried when India were out and you felt sorry for him as much you did for the team. Maybe its a question of motivation for him.
He tries too hard to change his game for test cricket by going on a blocking spree and suddenly gets out when runs dry up. He needs to play his natural game.

Not contesting that. You are better judge of batting technique than I. But what about his body language while fielding? Where is that super charged individual who used to exude confidence on the field. He used to be so lively and always used to make his displeasure clear when others also misfielded. And observe him here. He looks barely interested.

I think it's more to do with him not getting runs. He has failed for a few innings but let's stick to players whom we feel are talented. That's the only way we can have a settled team.

Kohli's poor run is going to put more pressure on him and the team because others don't do well. It is easy to grow as a player when guys surrounding you do well consistently. When you are one among the many who is not doing well people will raise concerns. Pujara is completely in a different league in Tests. Shot selection, temperament, technique just come so naturally to him. Hope they try him at no.4. Like it or not he is one of our bright future.

^ I think coach and seniors can help him. He doesn't seem to have technical or temperamental issues.
Agreed. His problem is that he hasn't learned to pace his innings properly in tests which he does wonderfully in ODIs. Needs to play a little more positively at the beginning of the innings. I have no doubts that he'll start doing well soon.

He is susceptible to the ball leaving him at pace. Riaz took him out the same way and yesterday so did Anderson
Yes closes the face of the bat too early and tries to play it on the on side towards mid on. Needs to correct it.

every batsman is susceptible to that kind of ball.

Yes thats why outswing is rated so highly. Also kohli is a legside player so that makes it more difficult .

:agree: That works very well in ODIs where pitches are always flat. Unfortunately ODI matches where he got most of his international experience, don't test batsman much these days.
