Ultimate_Game Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Very biased list. None of the Sehwag innings on flat tracks deserve to be in that list. Kamran Akmal hundred at Karachi is better than all those double & triple 100s on roads. Also Hanif Muhammad longest inningsever is better than most listed above. Totally agree. After all anyone can hit 300 without a problem. I am sure most of the Pakistani batsmen have scored plenty of triple 100s on the same ground where Sehwag flayed your team for a triple century :cantstop:

One reason they may not deserve is because it came against some of the worst bowling attacks (Akhtar, Saqlain .. et al).
Cricketics Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If brain is applied and lot of thinking is done, LAXMAN'S 281. Nothing can match that important innings. LAXMAN'S 281.. THATS IT.. GREATEST INNINGS IN TEST CRICKET..

GREATEST INNINGS IN TEST CRICKET.. yup. back to the wall innings against the best side of that era at full strength.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 One reason they may not deserve is because it came against some of the worst bowling attacks (Akhtar' date=' Saqlain .. et al).[/quote'] You have a valid point... minnow bashing should never be a hallmark of greatness :two_thumbs_up:

Khatmal :adore: .... what an inng against the great Ind bowling attack ..... definately should be in top 10 (if not in top 5) :two_thumbs_up: .... He should never be dropped from the Pak side!

Vijay.Sharma Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Yup .. it is THE best inngs ever played in History of Test Cricket.I'd rate Lara's 153 higher than this one.

GREATEST INNINGS IN TEST CRICKET.. it has to be right up there. it changed indian cricket, from my point of view. cant see how this one isnt included and the sehwag triple at chennai is.
ravishingravi Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 it has to be right up there. it changed indian cricket' date= from my point of view. cant see how this one isnt included and the sehwag triple at chennai is. :two_thumbs_up:
Dayman Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 It takes into every possible parameters except match-situation. LOL
akshayxyz Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Laxman's 281 has to be best ever. Any other list starts from #2 on wards. Thanks for the trivia Ultimate_game post#17.
CSK Fan Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Yup .. it is THE best inngs ever played in History of Test Cricket. I'd rate Lara's 153 higher than this one. These two for sure
Sachinism Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 VVS is arguably the greatest knock ever, not to even make it to the Top 10, makes the list questionable
Vijay.Sharma Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 I think the list has been misinterpreted. I don't think they are saying much about the quality of the knock in itself. What they are referring to is the magnitude of points earned by individual with that one knock. As I understand the points given to a knock considers the following: a. volume of runs scored b. opposition bowlers' icc rating points at the time of the match c. number of partnerships in the knock d. state of the pitch as measured by the runs per wicket till that point in the game e. fall of wicket when the batsman came in f. fall of wicket when the batsman got out or g. fall of last wicket if the batsman remained not out (last wicket is not necessarily tenth wicket) h. batsman's current icc rating (before the match started)...so if a batsman had a great rating then a great performance is kinda expected from him Of course I don't agree with the list but just clarifying what I think could be the factors that influence the ratings points. I think the ICC ratings points should not be used to focus too much on single instances coz it quite clearly reduces its credibility. It is designed as a way to understand a player's performance over a period of time.
maniac Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 It's surprising that no innings from 60's,70's,80's,early 90's makes the list.. I am surprised to see Gavaskar, Chappell bros,Viv Richards, Boycott,Gower not being in the list. Obviously like a lot of us have already mentioned,VVS should be there on the list. I agree for Sir afridi for a change on one of the statements that there are probably better innings than Viru's triple hundred.Flat track against phaast bowlers like Sami,Shabbir Ahmed,Razzaq and a Washed up Saqlain and Chucktar, making a triple is always a great achievement but i am sure there are innings under more challenging circumstances.
nballa Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 here is a more accurate 'statistical' list select * from dbo.innings i order by i.score desc
nikred Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 here is a more accurate 'statistical' list select * from dbo.innings i order by i.score desc ....but why use table alias when referencing only one table? :((
