Karan114 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 @ImRaina Suresh Raina You play to win of course, but I feel right decision has been made.. MS your beauty mate..It feels great to play under your leadership Well, he's not going to go against his captain in public. I highly doubt all of the Indian players would have been happy with Dhoni's decision - pretty much all of the ex-cricketers (even the English ones) disagreed with Dhoni's decision.
Chandan Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Actually I didn't understand what was against the spirit of the game in the dismissal. When Sachin had a collision with the bowler in Kolkata test in '99 against and got run out, that was against the spirit. But this was perfectly fine where either Bell was being too arrogant to decide upon himself that it was 'over' and called 'tea' and decided that four and left the ground or was being too naive (which I doubt) or had run for the 4 run, was aked by his partner to return but it was too late hence acted dramatcally that he thought it was already a 4 and tea and he was leaving the ground (most likely) Whichever way, it was batsman who was 100% at fault and dismissal was not at all against any spirit. Please someone explain to me where was the sportsman's spirit violated?
WC2011INDIA Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 after hearing m vaughan they may change there mind He obviously wants to remain in Dhoni's good books, so that Dhoni can strongly recommend him as future Captain of team India.

I think more than the spirit of the game, it was the canon of worms it would have opened up which Dada also referred to in the tea time break. Had Bell been declared run out, everytime an Indian batsman moved out of his crease for gardening or talking to the other batsman, England would have been well within their rights to run him out. Could have gone onto become quite nasty in the end. As for the VVS or Sachin's dismisals, we did feel aggreived when those incidents happened. Yes the opposition captains didn't recall our batsmen but then we don't need to follow in their foot steps. Our teams over the years has played fairly and done well, we should continue doing that despite the pot shots others have taken at us.
amiret Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 The decision to recall will not matter. Bell barely added 20 odd runs . However his poor performances with the bat and behind the stumps are reasons enough to Drop him.We can't afford to have a non-playing captain.
Cricket Tragic Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 The Laxman stumping was not a big deal since the keeper took the bails off immediately. Remember Lara vs Stewart in Sharjah? International players generally don't make a mistake of going out of crease unless ball is dead. It was a good decision because it stopped controversies and ensured that team's image doesn't get too bad.

Anything could have happened if Dhoni hadn't changed the decision. It doesn't matter how it affects the game. England played better than team India.
Sachinism Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I can guarantee the English dressing room had a good laugh after getting Dhoni to overturn the decision. They have taken us for a ride. Dhoni should have thought for a moment what would have happened if it was the other way around. Knowing England would have told him to get on his bike.....

They are on a roll..Can't blame them. Their team is fit and performing well on the field... Our time will come..
kabira Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 ^ Had Bell been declared run out, everytime an Indian batsman moved out of his crease for gardening or talking to the other batsman I guess you have never played cricket..... When you are moving out for gardening, the ball is dead. Same thing with talking to the other batsman, you let umpire know you want to talk. Batsman has to do all those things, its quite basic. You are being naive there.

It doesn't matter how it affects the game. England played better than team India. The way we were bowling , it felt like we had given up long before Tea. Short pitch balls, down the leg side ..etc. Every over we were giving away boundaries. I think it was an easy decision for the team to recall Bell because they had given up long time before the incident and it did not matte to them . That is what hurt the most as a fan , we were giving away 5 runs an over in a TEST MATCH without a fight.
urbestfriend Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 My question to those who are opposing the Dhoni's move is: Have you supported the same if it had happened to Sachin instead of Bell? I know many of you would have whinged endlessly for years...If you oppose Dhoni's decision now, you would lose the moral authority to whinge when it happens to one of our players..You can't have both ways.

Ganguly was out of his mind when he made this comment,Even anybody in gully cricket knows this rule, We have set a bad precedent now, every opp batsman will make excuse now that he thought the ball went for a boundary so he should be not out.
Sachinism Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 If for nothing else, can you imagine the mindset of our players after being shafted like that
Mariyam Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Just saw the video of Bell's dismissal. What Dhoni did sure was magnanimous, but to it wasn't in the 'Spirit of the game'. It is Bell's duty to keep his eyes on the ball when he was running. If he slackened for whatever reason, it is totally his fault. What kind of a batsman hangs around in the middle of the pitch. He should have made it to the crease in quick time. Bell's dismissal was completely within the rules of the game and was by his own misreading of the situation. If he collided with a fielder when taking a run and was run out, I can agree with Dhoni calling him back. But this re-call was not according to the 'spirit of the game'
Kookabura Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 In the name of 'spirit of the game', we've made a fool of ourselves. No other top team would have reversed it - not WI at their peak, not Steve Waugh's Aussies, not these same English under Atherton/Nasser/Pieteresen or Strauss.
Sidhoni Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Did you see Ganguly's comments on Star. He said he would have called him back. We are not Australia. Never were and never will . We are Indians. We have our identity. :two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up:
