Kohli and Ojha to replace Yuvi and Bhajji

I don't see much difference in Kohli or Rohit. IF they had selected Rohit, I would have been fine. Either way both need exposure. So both need to play 10-15 test matches in different conditions, before we can judge either.

How long do they need to mature?? He came before Kohli and if he was consistent in ODIs would have got his test match berth long back..
Let me first concede that for now, Kohli deserves his place ahead of Rohit and Pujara. He has performed well consistently, grabbed his chances and cannot be sidelined after one poor series. In all probability we should be seeing Kohli , Pujara and Sharma all playing together within the next 2-3 years. The point I am trying to make is that Rohit is the better batsman than the other two. He will probably take another year to mature.I see him more like a VVS who needs some self belief and is one career-altering score away from getting there. To reply to your point about Rohit making his debut ahead of Kohli: Hewitt used to own Federer until Fed found his game , but once he did,Hewitt had nowhere to run. Rohit's best/peak is on a higher level than Kohli's or Pujara's level.

You are right on that. In any case , they both will be playing for India in the near future for many years.

That.. That statement my friend will baffle plenty of people out here. Not many shall agree. Because it hasn't been proved if Rohit is better than Kohli. It's just self assumption of few people who exaggerate the word "Technique" Looks class apart, Looks solid - All nothing when you can't put runs on the board. If you can, you deserve to play in the 11.

I am neither exaggerating on technique nor am I saying Kohli is bad. But when you watch Rohit bat,you just know that he has that something special. It was just like seeing Federer play during his early days and knowing that he was better than the rest even though he hadn't won a single slam at that point in time. Of course, Sharma has to deliver otherwise it all counts for nothing, but then again he isn't very old ,is he? His peak years are still ahead of him as are Kohli's.It would be interesting to see their progress and follow their respective careers as they carve out a niche for themselves. Besides, I have already conceded, that given the restrictions on the test berth, Kohli deserves it on basis of his past performance.

Doesn't feel like a monumental change,We all have been criticising Bhajji's bowling which has let us down but atleast he gives some amount of confidence batting at No7-8

That bold decision is being taken from past few years now. He is coming back and forth in Indian team by doing nothing. He didn't deserve to be part of World Cup team either and I am glad Kohli rose to he occasion in South Africa and got selected for World Cup over him easilty. I am glad he wasn't picked in the world cup. Though good to see him doing well in Windies.
Kohli deserved to play the WC ahead of Rohit, But do think Rohit is more suited to test cricket than Kohli, May be even Raina.

I am beginning to suspect India's selection policy is driven by the media more than anything else. Sharma not being on the plane is unexplainable. All this started with some fool saying Kohli is future India captain and here goes the merry go around.
I blame this forum too for that. I hear too much about Virat Kohli as the future kaptaan.

Kohli is cricketicz' bachpan se friend, however, he needs to work on his technique first. Let Kohli improve his technique rather than rush him to the Test squad. Currently, his technique is lacking for Test match level.

As far as I know, there were always more Sharma fans than Kohli on ICF. Maybe still. He never succeded in anything. Kohli rose the occasion on big tours like South Africa, and lived to the expectation and the hype which I created here for Kohli. He WILL continue to perform well too.

Sharma is good but he looked pretty poor in SA. All the young batsmen have areas of their game that they need to improve on.
This. I don't know why no one understands this. If either of Rohit/Virat are goddamned awesome, they would be regulars in the team. They are not, so only way for the selectors to get them into the team is to give chances to them alternatively till (that is, if) they can improve their game. This is Kohli's chance. Sharma will get this soon enough. I fully approve his selection in the team though I don't think he's ready yet and is not going to light up english bowlers. Anyway he is going to be in the bench till at least the 4th test.

Hope Dhondy is at the ground when Kohli hits his maiden ton. :phehehe:
What is the big deal? Looking at Dhondy's post history, he has got predictions badly wrong quite often. :dontknow: He also used to post in the padosi site.

Kohli doesn't know how to play with soft hands..Most of the time he'll be caught behind.. Bad choice..Kohli cannot be a Test match player FFS.. He doesn't has the temperament..
We can point countless flaws in Raina. That doesn't stop him from playing Tests, does it?

Giving Raina a free Test pass is a friggin joke. The guy can't bat or bowl with his life on the line. Yuvraj is waaaaaaaaaaaay better in both departments. If we play Raina as a substitute fielder in tests, I'm fine with that. But Raina has seriously done nothing to improve his technique. I'm sorry, he doesn't deserve to be in the team. Che Pujara is a better bet, when fit.

You are absolutely right... Raina........... no technique in batting and bowling he know attacking only with bat. that never works in test cricket. Fortunately he is young and he can learn from his past mistakes. Hope pujara will find a place in Indian squad.

Raina is extremely lucky with the spate of injuries to the seniors giving him a lot of opportunities. But he failed in South Africa (being picked itself was a shock) and he's repeating his performances here.
