Do you even consider T20 as preserving the genuiness of cricket? Is that even a genuine representation of cricket!!??? :giggle: Poll...votes please This para on CI summarizes nicely. A player can fake it in short-form cricket but not in Tests. Test matches brutally scrutinises every skill a cricketer may have been born with, developed or dreamt about. Beyond their physical and mental abilities in the craft itself, it also strips bare over and over again, personality itself. England has done that to every man on the Indian team and each of them know, more than a rival or an expert or their own family, just who they are and where they stand - as batsman, as bowler, as fielder, as captain, as team man.

Its not. But I'd like to do a reality check here. There are some who keep asking "Why is Tests considered greatest?" "Its an England product" or it is a myth that has been sold to us by Eng that Tests are the best format etc. Tests are the only format which, as written, brutally scrutinises every skill a cricketer may have been born with, developed or dreamt about. ODIs are already a distant poor cousin. T20 - lets see what folks think.

Can't even imagine a battle anywhere near to Steyn-Sachin last year, happening in T20. Top class batting-top class bowling.

All 3 formats should be treated as completely different sports, even though they are played in the same arena by mostly the same players. Different strokes for different folks as they say, some may find watching Alastair Cook or Rahul Dravid batting in a test for 1.5 days and scoring 200 runs a great thrill and some may feel the same about seeing Chris Gayle or Sehwag smash a 60 ball century in an ODI. Test cricket is undoubtedly the toughest format to play and excel in but some of the skills limited overs specialists show, are skills that some test players could only dream of having. Cricket is probably the only sport in the world in which these kind of things are possible which is all part of it's great charm.

So is 50 over cricket an acceptable form of cricket? At what point does it become not cricket? Is there a number of overs cutoff? Is there a max salary cutoff beyond which other factors like overpaid, yada yada yada, kick in?

I personally am not a fan of T20 but there are quiet a few aspects of the game which will still evolve I think...right now no one has been able to figure out the format completely Look at the way ODI changed over the years from stuff like SMG's innings,Fast bowlers dominance,slow start at the beginning of the innings,Boring middle overs etc etc Every time there was an innovation and a team began to dominate there was a counter strategy that hepled the game evolve into what is today.T20 has a more world-wide appeal and some team would figure it out eventually and there will be more strategies not the time-outs kind. PS:Please don't come up with statements like CSK has figured out the art of T20 and other stuff like that.

if hitting 4s and 6s is not an aspect of cricket than I think you are right. Forget the name T20 and think it is a test where a team like Australia needs 140 runs to win in 20 overs on the last day, what will they do, they will play like this, and this will still need skills and strokes in their armry. I think this format needs more strokes in batsmen's armry and is much more tense and pressure. We can oppose yes IPL is overpaying cricketers for this which is hampering overall state of cricket and it has become a shortcut to earn money for players that now instead of going on a long cut and working hard they are choosing the shortcut and giving more importance to it, but saying this form of cricket does not need skill that is just understating the skills needed to play this form of the game. Best players can succeed in any form. And if some one say we are not getting good players because of T20 then that some one is wrong. COunt how many good test batsmen we have got since 2000 to 2008 before IPL had started, most probably only Gautam Gambhir even he started doing well in tests after 2008. So this whole decade has not been good for India in terms of finding batting talent who can serve us in test cricket for a long time and IPL is just 3 years old. It is not all IPL's fault, blame the generation. This is a generation of short cut. Hard work does not suit them. IPL Just rubbing the salt on the wounds of misery, nothing else.

I have heard that unlimited days tests were real genuine test cricket. It should be great if we start playing those tests again. No days limit or no overs limit in a day, bat as long as you can and bowlers can bowl any number of bouncers. And if a test is played in Motera, it will last at least 30 days and on the last day of the test both teams will be playing with their second eleven on the field because first eleven won't even be fit to take the field.
