I have noticed this so many times - when you go any place ( grocery, shopping or whatever ) and there is another desi. It's kinda natural to sorta acknowledge that there is another "Indian" in the house but it has that typical stare. Its like, they will eat you up, its not a glance or anything but they will just look at you right in the face and keep looking The stare seems to have lot of question buried into it, like where you from, how did you get there, how much do you make. Its seriously awkward and its usually a trait of FOB's Anyone else noticed it

Fact of the matter is, majority of NRIs are not thrilled at seeing other Indians in their midst. You get the classic 'I-am-the-only-one-who's-supposed-to-be-having-a-good-time-living-abroad' look.

For example, if you go to a temple, hardly gives anyone else a 2nd glance, coz we expect to see Indians in that environment. But lets say you go to an expensive restaurant, or say drive into parking lot in a fancy car, you're toast. There will be millions of eyes on you, blaring out 'OMG, how dare you come to Amreeka and do well for yourself..' :giggle:

coffee_rules Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 These days, I have noticed generally desis do smile at other desis ( have reciprocated and been reciprocated by quite a few). This is a 90s thingy or a canadian thingy. Out here in NJ, we do find non-desis being an odd one! It's good to have more people around from a community point of view. Otherwise, you might see your rights being taken for granted.

For example, the tip cocky and funny would work with any girl in the world. The idea behind cocky and funny is that u r giving signals that u r extremely confident of urself and confidence is a magnet to get girls. :winky:
yoda Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Never experienced this stare thingy. It is typically a silent acknowledgment of a fellow Indian. Then again in the SF Bay area if you are surprised seeing an Indian, you are probably a Caucasian from the South than an Indian.
