So far in my career i worked mainly for sake of finishing the work on time and quality without much worried about returns (like Increment, rewards ect..) always thought if sincerely wroked all these happen themselves.. but now after 8 years i dont feel like that.. we have set of goals ( some of them are totally useless), most of the guys work just for that numver without any responsibilty even managers also just worried about those numbers... question is why do you guys except for reguler salary? Passion, rewards , or just to fill number ?

I work for trying to learn better and newer tools, technologies etc in my area, Business Intelligence. Money is important of course but it is not the numero uno in my books. When I started my career Y2K was the easiest ticket to come abroad make money etc. BI was a niche arena that was growing, in retrospect it was one of the better decisions I made. Stick to being in a good area, technology or otherwise, money will follow on its own.

"A day spent working = I'm closer to retirement" has been the motivation also the formal business suits and skirts, to some extent

When I was in college, I was so sure about what was right and wrong. And I was idealistic. I was sure that I would only work with *reputed* firms who would never stand for the oppressor, who would help the downtrodden, who would place law above everything and all that. And all the "reputed" firms claim that they are idealistic. I wanted to work to make my city and my country a better place. I joined a well known and highly rated law firm last August. Inside 3 months, I lost sense of right and wrong. Earlier I could discern between black and white, now I started seeing grey everywhere. There were no right parties. Just people who were wrong. And those who were "wronger" ? Who do you fight for? The lying labour union leader who is in cahoots with the management or the errant manager who neglects safety? The government which confiscates prime land by stating it as forest area or the slum dwellers association who encroach that land illegally and pay electricity bills to the government? The diamond bourse who which monopolizes diamond trade through hoarding and artificial shortages or the whistle-blower who is an associated member of such a bourse and reneges on his contractual agreement with them? :(( Basically, I was stupid and naive when I joined. Now I'm only stupid. :P Now I assist my dad with his manufacturing businesses. Not many occasions of legal work, but helping your family concern grow has its own sense of 'feel good' to it. I also get to troll more on ICF. :P

I work for money. But I am always sincere in my work and I enjoy what i do to a certain extent, that's what keeps me going on. I do not give a phuck about rewards, appreciations and stuff, I do my work and get the hell out of there. I quite enjoy watching people stoop to low levels with their office politics, though. :P

Quite pertinent. Whats your take on - What doesn't kill you make you stronger? How did it work out in your chosen area of work?
