Mariyam Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 This anecdote is hardly relevant to anything right now, but I just remembered it; happened a good 3 years ago or when I was doing my 2 month internship with a law firm that offered consultations mainly on Trusts Law and Trusteeship. Though internships were not a mandatory requirement as a part of my curriculum, having a good internship experience is always a big plus on the CV. Many a times, the firm where you intern also offer you pre placement packages. Didn't happen with me though ( The building where I was doing my internship was 18 floors high and my office was on the top floor. It was my first day, and I was dressed all neatly with a formal skirt, a formal shirt pressed with sharp creases, and a colourful shoulder sash. After an eventful first day, it was time to go home. I enter the lift and clicked the button for the basement (car park). 18.... 17... 16... 15... Ting!!! The lift stopped, the door opened and two construction workers stepped in. They gave me a very dirty look and giggled something to each other in what I think was Bengali. I gave them a very stern "who do you think you are funning " stare and that shut them up. Now I really can't describe what the two smelt like. It was a hot summer day. Maybe 40C. (Thats about 105F for all you 'Mericans, NRIs and other inferior creatures.). And these guys were obviously working under the sun on some scaffolding for the last 8-9 hours and were sweating from every pore. The smell was overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the job they do, but the stench was really strong. It felt as if someone took a few Kakori kebabs, put them under a bed for a month, took them back out and sprinkled rotten eggs and curd on it. Even the tools in their hands were so grimy that they looked totally black as against the colour of steel. Luckily, they pressed 11, so I would have to bear with them only for 3 floors. 13... 12.... Ting!!!! They left, but the smell was so powerful that it stuck on to the walls of the lift. No problemo, I though. I can hold my breath for another 11 floors. Held my breath for longer while swimming. 10... 9.... 8.... 7... 6... Ting!!! Lo behold, in front of me stood 2 of the cutest, smartest looking guys (twins) I had seen in my life till then. Everything about them was superlative, their dressing, their hair, their gait, their voice (I didn't hear them talk, but I'm sure their voice would be sexy). Kind of like a Hritik Roshan + Humphrey Bogart combo. The first guy took one step into the lift, smiled at me and was about to say something when the strong 'scent' hit him. He stepped back out and giggled something to his brother. ( I was mortified; how on earth could I fix this? They obviously thought it was me, but I had to think fast, I had to explain, what do I say, It wasn't me? Some body went into the lift before me? Two construction workers walked in and ended up shadowing the lift with that evil scent? No? How do you even begin explaining this? In those few seconds from the guys stepping back out and laughing at me, till the moment the lift door closed, I realized there was literally nothing I could say to save the situation. I just went quiet, and bowed my head down in shame. I don't know what brought this memory back to mind, but hey, if you are a guy and remember seeing a (beautiful) girl in a lift about 3 years ago, and the lift smelt bad, just know that it wasn't her. Sigh. There's a contact form saying PM when you click my ICF page *ahem* :hitler:

nikred Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 ....years later Mariyam had to go to the same building on some work only to realize that it had only 14 floors. Suddenly, everything became clear to what actually happened on that day. Her office was on the top floor alight, but it was the 14th flooor. There were never any construction workers, it was only a delusion created by her creative brain to cover up that embarrassing even on that fateful day. :((
