Occupy Mumbai is a occupation on October 29th by the Indian people of Madam Cama Road, Mumbai near the headquarters of the Maharashtra state government building to peacefully protest against the Indian government's frequent abuse of human rights, rampant corruption and oppression of it's people. We chose the location of Madam Cama Road because of it's close proximity to multiple important government buildings, as well as the State Bank of India's head office, the Union Bank of India and numerous other banks and corporations. We are an offshoot of the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement and are supported by 'Occupy Together' and 'Occupy Globally'. Our aim is to bring change in India to make it a more socially advanced and democratic nation. This can only be achieved through the following: - The Indian government must do more to prevent currently rampant corruption - All political prisoners such as Sanjiv Bhatt must be freed immediately - The Indian government must stop transnational corporations abusing the rights of Indians - The Maharashtra state government must invest more money into the Dharavi administrative ward which has become overrun with poverty - India must focus less on it's foreign policy and more upon it's own people - India must end state-sponsored brutality through the police, the Border Security Force and militia groups such as Salwa Judum - India is encouraged to give the right to bear arms back to it's citizens What are our political views? The political views of those involved in this movement differ hugely. Among us there are anarchists, libertarians, the far-right, conservatives, socialists, social democrats, liberals, nationalists and theocrats. Anna's protest was so original and this one seems like a pathetic attempt at aping what is happening in the US right now without having any substantial issue to rally around. I mean the issues they have chosen are so damn generic that nothing can be achieved from a protest. At least Lokpal thingy had a motive, an objective, a deliverable. What does occupy mumbai have?

It sounds like just barking without an aim...rebels without a cause. They should focus their energies by picking an issue. For ex - that Sanjiv Bhatt thing - now that is specific but seriously it is rather dumb to hold a protest to stop the course of law. Ours is a democracy not a mobocracy

Shouldn't there be a lesser probability of violence as a result of increased economic prosperity ?

Any protest itself do not necessary represent the majority wishes. And there can be a own hidden political agenda if the protests is about satisfy some specific demands.
