He is constantly making them play and he is always planning. That will serve him well. Bigger tests lie ahead against better opposition and in different conditions. I hope he succeeds.

I love the fact that he reacts well to being hit for a four or 6. Anytime he gets hit, next ball he doesn't bowl fast like usual spinners which is the usual reaction of spinners. He drastically reduces the speed.

Murali could barely get a wicket on Aus tour. They stopped him going past Warne's wicket tally and he only needed a few that tour. New Aus batsmen may struggle yes.

Mendis relied too much on carrom ball and he become predictable. Ashwin still bowls mostly classic off spin and keeps carrom ball as surprise delivery. He doesn't use it for even first 4-5 overs.

ganeshran Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Finger spinners dont do that well in Australia generally. We might be playing 3 seamers and only one spinner there. Might be a toss between Ojha, Ashwin and Bhajji. A lot depends on the performance in the next 2 matches.

Mendis is an unorthodox spinner who is not good at bowling orthodox deliveries. Ashwin is an orthodox spinner who is good at bowling unorthodox deliveries.

MCcricket Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Although I rated Ashwin highly,he has raised my opinion on him as a test bowler.Not a gimmicky bowler or one trick pony like Mendis, this guy bowls in a classical style, has good control, fantastic variations , along with the off spinner, the shooter, carrom ball, the arm ball,along with Ojha he looked good.Makes me wonder how many tricks we missed in England, with this bowling line up , we could've made them dance. Ishant is getting in good rhythm, he takes a session or more to figure out and bowl the right lenght, once he gets past that he bowls well.We should try Varun in the next game , Umesh has along way to go before he is considered a permanent fixture.Rahul Sharma also needs to be played soon,we should look at Gony seriously as a test bowler
