Ram
For a no.8, he's pretty good. The thing with Aswhin is that opposition captains treat him like a bowler who cannot bat, as opposed to showing respect for his run-making abilities and he capitalizes on that very well. A big proportion of his runs come via boundaries - he has a test SR of over 70, which is Sehwagesque - scored along the ground thru the many gaps in the field. If opposing captains treat him like a proper batsmen with semi-defensive fields, he could get frustrated. Link to comment

He has a mindset of a batsman and plays shots most batsmen would be proud of and gives you confidence while batting unlike Harbhajan who may have played a lot of good inning but sitll never gives you confidence. I agree about the looking secure part. I still think Aswhin has a (relative) weakness outside off-stump that can be exploited. Link to comment
Number
PLEASE STFU WITH ALL THIS SPINNERS OPENING THE BATTING, SPINNERS PLAYING IN THE MIDDLE ETC ORDER BOLLOCKS. THIS IS TEST CRICKET, PROPER BATSMEN PLAY 1-6, A WICKET KEEPER AT 7, AND 4 PROPER BOWLERS AT 8-11. THE END. Link to comment

Open secret. Who does not have weakness outside off stump in seaming conditions but he did bat good enough in Aus and countered such weakness. I am not saying he should be treated as a batsman but talent and ability is talent are there to see whenver he bats. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
As long as we don't put pressure on Ashwin as a batsman he is more likely to deliver for us. Moment you and other teams start treating him as a specialist batsman things might go wrong. From our part we should consider his runs as bonus. Link to comment
someone
Can be our Daniel Vettori. BTW, does he know Hindi? Especially since all the others can communicate in that. Link to comment

Malcolm Merlyn
Ashwin was a genuine batsman in FC and later became a off spinner.Prsently he is batting better than Yuvraj or Dhoni.Get him to p;ay at Yuvraj's place and get another spinner in. Link to comment

That will ruin his batting and bowling will get even worse. Remember Irfan Pathan. Its this habit of putting a bowler who can bat into a specialist position which has ruined many all rounders. He should be concentrating mostly on his bowling and bat at the same position. Link to comment
