Karachi: Pakistan former Test captain Rashid Latif has urged the cricket board to play a bilateral series with India only after they compensate Pakistan for the cancelled tour of 2009. "I have been reading a lot of statements from the board officials on resumption of bilateral matches with India. I don't think we should tour India until they compensate us in some way for the tour they cancelled in 2009," Latif told PTI. The former wicketkeeper-batsman felt that if Pakistan agreed to tour India next year for the Test series without first reaching some agreement for compensation with the Indian board than they should kiss goodbye to the 2009 series. "Why do we have to always take the initiative in wanting to resume bilateral ties with India. They didn't allow our players to take part in the IPL for the last three editions, what difference has it made to our cricket infact our team is doing well and our players are in demand all over the world," Latif said. He pointed out that Pakistan had also suffered financial losses due to India cancelling the 2009 tour but they still survived. "Pakistan cricket has survived and also done well despite international teams not coming to our country, India ignoring us and the spot-fixing scandal so we should take heart from all this while dealing with the Indians." He advised the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board to deal with India on even grounds instead of trying to just get them to resume bilateral ties. "Even the ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat has said that it is about time the member boards showed more grit while dealing with the Indians." Latif also urged the PCB to do away with the idea of appointing Dav Whatmore as head coach of the Pakistan team. "There is no need to change the team management at this stage. And I don't think Whatmore is the right man to work well with our cricket culture and the mindset of our players," he said. Latif noted that even the Sri Lankan players had complained to their board about the attitude of Whatmore. "He is a good coach but he is also known to be arrogant and I don't think he will get along with our players." The former captain said even if the board wanted to appoint Whatmore, it should instead bring him in to run the cricket academies and junior teams. "We need to restructure and improve our cricket at the grass root level. As if the BCCI is dying to play with Pakistan. Take your begging bowl elsewhere Latif.
:dito: Their fans, media, ex-players are constantly going on about playing India or "teaching India a lesson" as this Latif guy says, while India can't give a toss whether we play with them or not.

He is complete joker. A year back i heard him on radio making tall claims that he lost his place because of match fixing(everyone except him was chor). You can sense that he was just talking all crap an just trying to sell on sensationlism of match fixing scandal.....

koi iss dhakkan ko batao - that it was risky even for Pakistani players to tour India at such critical time. Who knows some Indian extremist group could have used the opportunity to extract 'revenge'.

What about if India asks Pakistan for compensation for sending various "teams" to India (26/11 etc)!!!

No point in playing Cricket when Pakistanis are training to kill Indians. I am sure India can very well do without playing against Pakistan. If they want compensation for not playing in Pakistan then they should go around asking from the whole world. No one plays in Pakistal LOL.

Well...BCCI is doing great financially....India just won the WC (beating Pakistan in SF on their way to top)....were the No1 ranked Test team recently...& have a financially strong tournament called IPL...in which most of Pak players want to play (& since they got banned from playing in it...decided to fix opps my mistake...spot-fix their matches to compensate for IPL fortunes). Yeah Latif....please tell your board not to keep asking BCCI for cricket.

Another item added to the Pakistanis list of demands: 1. Uranium 2. resumption of cricketing ties w/ Ind 3. compensation 4. Demand for apology from the UK press for correctly "fixing" the spot fixers 5. If not already out: a demand for apology from Veena Malik for going against Islam, nationalal pride, kaum ki badnami, .... ...... (the demands' list is tooooooooooooooooooo long)

Pakistanis constantly talking about 2009 tour which didn't happen. It would great for them even if a series happens in India which is highly unlikely. There is no point in asking about 09 series and putting conditions when they are clearly not in position to force their own terms.

I am glad that 09 tour did not happen. Feel bad for SL who decided to tour instead. But rest assured, the X member team that attacked on SL team would have been a lot bigger (X * X) if India was touring instead and Indian team may not have been as lucky as SL team.. BTW, have the perpetrators been caught ? Punished? Or no updates?
