yes' date='TA Sekar especially seems very good n is able to identify strengths n weaknesses of bowlers very quickly[/quote'] I like Subroto Banarjee more. He has done that with Yadav and TA Shekher could not done with Aaron in 6 years when he was in MRF though he has done better with Irfan. Any coach needs time spent in the nets to do such things and no coach can do it during series or matches when the bowler is playing. Yadav went through chanegs when he was out of team fo a year after 2010 Zimbabwe tour and Vidarbha bowling coach Banarjee worked with him on his action and approach. I am sure even Joe Dawes can do it, but where is the time to do that and spend in nets while they mostly are traveling or playing matches. Having fast bowling coach with national team is of less use and it can be better with NCA where he can work with young bowlers in the nets and grrom them. Joe Dawes has done it with Ryan Harris who used to be a trundler in mold of PK, VK 4-5 years back and was a nothing bowler, keeper used ot keep him up, but as he joined Queensland where Dawes was the coach, who enabled him bowl quick and gain pace.

He should not be playing international cricket till he gets a bagful of FC wickets in domestic cricket and on A tours. Post injury, wonder why he was rushed back into the test side. Hasn't given him enough chance to play Ranji matches away from media glare and work on his shortcomings.

In many ways, Ishant reminds me of Steve Harmison: can bowl fiercely well when the mood posesses him but needs tons of help from the pitch to move the ball and on slow & flat pitches, he lacks the movement to be effective: all he can do is bang it in short of a length outside the offstump channel and hope he induces a mistake. Ishant needs to fix a few critical issues: 1. His head is still falling away. I seriously think its a problem with his hair, when i used to bowl with long hair, sometimes i used to instinctively tilt my head a little (and cause it to fall away) to get a better look at the bowling spot. 2. His seam position is still not good enough 3. His jump and pivot is weak, losing a lot of momentum and needs to be stronger 4. He is not fast enough (due to points #1 and 3) to pitch it up and not get hit. Due to point #2, when he does pitch it up, it hardly moves, so he is deadmeat. What he needs to do is look at Morne Morkel and bend his back a bit more to get the ball to bounce a bit more.

Meh! Dizzy had a proper mullet, ie, shortish near the very front. Ishant has a 'dirty mullet', where he just lets it grow long all over, including near the very front, which IMO could be clouding his vision

What's wrong with a coach trying to add more variations to a bowler? If he doesn't understand his own bowling and cannot accommodate new skills to improve how is that the coach s fault. I think Venky has been better than some of the other coaches we have tried in recent times and gets undue criticism.infact our seam bowlers were doing better under him IMHO . I like ishant but right now his unluckinessis more to do with how lost he looks than anything else.
well dale steyn only concentrates on outswing and not much on inswing why do u think its like tht ? bowlers do lose there natural movement when they try other things its normal thing wht im surprised about is 3 saal ho gye even now his seam is not right! well i thinkmits obvious now he thinks he is doing noyhing wrong and is just unlucky rather then ttying to find his problem :wall:

Ishant Sharma just runs in and bowls at this point, no pace or planning, he needs to play Ranji and county, he should not be picked up, P Singh, Gony, Shami are far better then him at this point.

I think it is wrong to look at complex things like Ishant's action and wrist position. His long term failing is indicative of the Indian mentality that selects players before they have played plenty of domestic cricket (heck, other nations have followed suit). He has shown himself to be one-dimensional and without a Plan B and this is because he has not toiled in domestic cricket and so has not had the opportunity to develop one. Someone like Shami would encounter the same issue precisely as he has not played much domestic cricket and isn't even doing well atm.

Shami has played enough cricket domestic and A tours and if he is talented should be placed well to succeed, bowlers need to be played when in form he has done well on A tours and also the current Ranji season. Ishant has played close to 45 Test's, he did not get proper guidance and he is not the smartest kid around, he tried to imitate Zaheer initially and lost his action and effectiveness, then got injured now he is not confident and lost his pace.Like Zaheer one or two seasons of County cricket can do wonders for him.

No one is going to get 5-fers every match. 18 wickets in 4 mathes is not a bad effort at all, considering he did not play in Mohali and helpfulk track of Eden Garden in first macth of the season. While Dinda has 8 wickets in 4 matches. He is still not ready for test cricket, but by SA tour he should be as conditions there would suit his bowling too. Regarding playing domestic cricket, how many of great fast bowlers have toiled for years in domestic cricket. You are always as good as the level you play. Most become better by playing international cricket that is why most fast bowlers are drafted young to learn thing at higehst level which they will barely learn at a low level that is what Ian Chappel had also written in his article, nt all ae going to be successful in both the scenarios. For India, it is about culture rather playing domestic cricket or international cricket.

Ishant is a useless piece of crap. He hasn't done anything to be playing tests for India again. There are many deserving bowlers who've been overlooked by the selectors. This should be the last time he's selected due to bias and not merit. He should be selected again only if he performs in FC Cricket and fixes his seam position.

Its not complex .Its basic thing in fast bowling and the reason of his downfall. When he had inswinger the ball that holds it line was destructive. Also Regarding toiling in domestic cricket ,In sc if we make bowlers toil for years in domestic cricket all they become is like of vinay kumar .

What about length? He still seems to bowl consistently at a safe, good length rather than going fuller for the surprise yorker or digging it in a bit to get the batsman on his backfoot. Result? He has Dilip-Doshi-like economy, but no wickets to show for it. Am I way off?

I have rarely seen Ishant's deliveries coming close to the stumps. Either they are gimmes outside the off or leg, or high bounce deliveries which can be harmlessly left to the keeper.

So even if he bowled outside off stump the ball ended up on offstump.

There is only so long you can persist with a serial under-achiever. He shows no real signs of improvement. It might be time to accept that he will never amount to much at test level and move on.
