Good news if true.Hopefully Sachin and Dravid can folloew him soon too.I would prefer him to rest (or dropped ) for Adelaide and then play the 1st test in Newzealand series and retire at home. Whatever his poor form is he is one of our greatest batsman and our greatest finisher in test cricket.And we wont forget how his 281 changed the face of Indian team forever either. :hatsoff: to the great moments he has provided us.

I know closely the coaches that have been involved with VVS and they had mentioned he was originally planning to call it off in Sydney this year but then changed the date to retire later this year in India either in Kolkata or if a chance presents in Hyderabad. Pity it didn't go his way, never in International cricket you can plan two years ahead considering a batsman's form can resemble a YOYO. Nevertheless, he has had a fantastic run but he should have ideally played way more cricket than what he did. Some of the coaches and captains always found him a scapegoat irrespective of his calibre. Even Rahul Dravid dropped him in favour of Chawla, that was the biggest joke of all.

Classic case of sour grapes. He played well over 130 tests. How many international players have done that? No youngsters have been able to break into the side because of Dravid, SRT and Laxman, yet we have lost more tests over the last 2 years than we have won, home tests included. I think he has played enough. 133 tests is good enough for 2 careers.

Completely agree with you as far as his Test career is concerned. But he certainly could have played lot (LOT) more ODIs than what he did had his ability been given due respect. His omission from WC 03 was the greatest debacle in his life!

It's time we stopped thinking about individuals and focussed on what's best for the team. I'd rather we played the best team at Adelaide, and if VVS doesn't fit into the best team he shouldn't play. To hell with his last innings duck (or not)

He still doesn't hae a clue against good bowling (like the Yadav delivery).
