anyone seen him live.. ? i had the opportunity to see so both lara and tendulkar live in the 90s. Disappointed that Sachin failed there. Lara also played an awkward innings. I did in this match in Gwalior. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65165.html Lara got out too soon and I didn't get time even to wave my posters. Sachin played superbly against an attack of Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop. My lasting memory of that match is Kambli hitting Ambrose for six.

Not sure how many of you remember.. He played one real ugly innings against India to save a test match. It was so un-lara innings.
Yeah in 2006 India's tour to WI when Munaf was some one to watch out for on his first overseas tour. I still remember Lara countered LBW possibility by batting outside the crease. Dravid was tactically wrong not to put short leg for Lara as he was batting outside the crease and was defending most of the balls from Munaf http://www.espncricinfo.com/wivind/engine/current/match/239921.html.

always saw parallel between the 2 sets of batsmen. Lara and Tendulkar were the young geniuses who the opposition would concentrate more on. Hooper and Azhar had that air of coolness around them which was unmistakable. when on song both were so great on the eyes.

This is one way of looking at it. The other way is England made 280 in first inning and were all out. They had to followon and WI had to only take 5 more wickets to win when time ran out.
Even if West Indies did take those 5 wickets in extra time, England would have most likely crossed the West Indies score and they would have had to bat again which tells me that the timing of the declaration did not cost them the match.

This was one of his most under-rated innings. It was very close to a minefield. But for the few hours that he batted, it seemed like a placid Sydney wicket all over. I think he played and missed just twice in that entire knock, which was quite ridiculous especially given that track. It was one of those rare occurrences of one batsman just playing on a completely different level. When Australia finished their first dig, Bevan's knock of pure grit, though very chancy, was the talk of the test match. And how it had helped Australia post a winning first innings score for that pitch. Enter Lara, to change all that in a span of a few hours. It was not just the fact that he scored a hundred, he just breezed through it without anything close to a scare. Scorecard

Looking at the pitch.. MY WORD Ali Khan> so much cracks.. like 5th day Cuttack pitch. Ball is simply not coming on. So unlike perth pitch. Timing the ball must have been horrible on a surface like this.
One thing I noticed in the hi-lights was he didn't score too many runs off Pidge and Warnie. He seemed to have picked the bowlers he could score off. As they say, a master in pacing his innings :hatsoff:

Wow wonderful inning that one! Thanks for the video. Also my time to post 'almost' regularily on ICF is coming to an end. I will lurk around though and may post sporadically Today my company is taking me out for a farewell lunch as the next week is my last at work. Then I will be busy with relocation related activities and taking off to do a 12-months MBA program .... :icflove:
