CG Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 T20 is no place for measuring speeds.People watch this matches and say xyz has lost pace in tests and odis.I started this thread in Ipl 2 or 1 I do not remember.Every match we had fastest ball by indian and match fastest.If it would be in that format atleast it would show the speed gun errors.

ShebbySB Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 5 of the fastest bowlers ri8 now in world cricket(who are playing intl cricket) are Steyn,Best,Yadav,Morkel & Pattinson.Finn & Roach have lost a bit of pace & Aaron along with Pat Cummins are always injured.Though we don't have an express bowler in the world cricket ri8 now like Akhtar,Lee,Bond or Tait.
someone Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Yesterday's match again showed why Indian fast bowlers are always going to be the problem. They simply do not have the temperament nor the pressure abilities to handle tough situations. Although, IPL should deserve some credit as at least these bowlers are getting some practice in these situation. No other domestic competition will offer this kind of pressure. And thus we have improved in this dimension compared 5 years back.

He is one of the 5-6 fast bowlers to have done that and those are all express bowlers Thomson, Lee, Akhtar, and Tait. He slowed down due to injuries but he was express at his best, quicker than any right now. Even in his last test series against Pak, he clocked 151 as quick as any you would see and he was supposed to be slowed down by then due to injuries.

Question is -- what were their general speeds like ? ( not the occasional faster spell ) From the numerous videos available of their bowling , they looked fast, not express. Even the wicket keeper did not stand as deep as Thommo etc. Obviously, it would be difficult to say anything with certainty as speed guns were rarely used.

Vilander Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 most 160+ speeds are bogus, i think only lee and tait acheived them in real life. Akthar was probably speed gun error as he was mostly 135-150 otherwise, and Thommo and his grand mom both probably reached 200 kph also..

From naked eyes, even 135-140K looks quite quick. Batsmen now have also gotten better in terms of facing genuine pace. He must be quicker that that at his peak, but dont think Roberts was an express bowler. There have been only 3-4 express bowlers in history Thomson, Akhtar, Lee, Tait. Some say Frank Tyson was an express bowler too.
