Bookies and betting sites are also considering India as favorite .South Africa is always considered as major contender despite failing to win knock out match .
We just lost to New zealand in our own backyard.

Rohit Sharma is a good t20 player and he has performed well in past world t20 tournaments. If he can gain back his form in t20, then he could be an asset for India in the upcoming t20 WC. Even a good 30 or 40 can make the difference in t20's. It is pretty much between Rohit and Manoj, and to be honest I would have preferred to see them playing rather than Dhoni in that last match against New Zealand. It was a good opportunity for them to get a feel for it. Having said that, there are still two warmup matches.

Irfan Pathan World T20 watch This guy's been bowling great this season and has been our best bowler. Has got that deadly inswing back and SL pitches should help him. Was brilliant in SL ODI series. Was also the best bowler in the SL and NZ T20s. Interesting to see is that both Kohli and him are performing at the same time. In both T20s they were the best batsman/bowler respectively. Same for the series against SL.

That was just 1 T20 .I think we all know at present no team come evencome close to our Batting line up in which almost every batsman is capable of single handedly winning the match. The only problem is in bowling department but with Zaheer , Pathan , Ashwin and Bhajji one can still be hopeful. No way this team can be considered as underdog .May be not number 1 contender but still at 2nd or 3rd place

Lol, how many times those 'batsmen-capable-of-winning-single-handedly' have won T20I single-handedly for India? 2nd and 3rd? Is it that because we do well in ODIs? We hardly manage to win international matches and everyone has already seen what happened in previous editions of world T20. See post #6

Apart from world cup do teams even take international T20s seriously?

I would say in T20 nobody is an underdog unless you are someone like Afghanistan or Kenya. Every team has a good chance on the day, provided one or two batsmen fires and the bowlers do a decent job. That's all it takes and every team has at least one or two good batsmen. NZ which is a low rated side has McCullum and Ross Taylor who can take the game away in 10 overs. Its about luck and who plays well during the pressure moments.

Ok, T20I performance doesn't count. Even if we leave those matches, our performance in world t20 after 2007 can't be even called decent. So, on what basis Indian team which loses most of it's matches (which no one takes seriously) and performs badly in world T20 (which people take seriously) should be considered 2nd or 3rd? On the basis of ODIs and IPL?

Our performance was bad in last 2 T20 world cups but why are you forgetting that this time world cup is in sub continent and here sub continents teams always have extra advantage in all all formats of game

Sehwag in the middle order for the World T20 Should we look at this option? Kohli and Gambhir bat well together and should ideally be opening the batting in T20s. Raina at 3, Sehwag 4 and Yuvraj at 5 gives us a solid middle order with Sehwag there to take care of the spinners in the middle overs, which I believe is going to be the key on the Lankan pitches.

It is worth considering but if Sehwag clicks he gives us that rapid start, GG/VK cant do it not to the same extent....and if he dosent clikc well an early wicket dosent hit us so hard in T20 as it might in tests or ODIs...we have rapid scorers in the middle order so we dont require Sehwag there really...
