Players like Sachin , Sehwag and Dhoni don't need IPL to make money.The major money they are making is not due to IPL but due to their performances for team India. If they stop producing for team India their earning power via endorsements which is much more than they ever make from IPL will go down eventually. IPL is for youngsters or players like Bhajji who are out of reckoning for their national teams to grab limelight with their performances and hope it gives them once more chance to prove their worth. It gives a chance for our young players to play with some of best best players in world and see how they do things and learn from them for eight weeks. Even a guy like KP who had so many problems with left arm spinners got help from Dravid who is one of best ever to play spin bowlers. It gives a chance to players like Suresh Raina to pick brains from player like Micheal Hussey who has played all his life on WACA on how to play on bouncy wickets.So far it looks like nothing has helped Raina in that department though.

I think he's alluding to the fact that the players tend to get sated after earning fat contracts and their motivation drops. In the old days you had to do well at intl level to be financially secure but not anymore. This phenomenon is similar to NFL/MLB/NBA players suddenly losing motivation and turning ordinary in a short period just after signing a multi-million dollar contract and getting paid. It's human nature that once you are in your comfort zone and are secure your drive will go down. I am sure majority of people, on or off this forum, won't put in the same effort at their workplace after they have won a multi-million dollar lottery and are financially secure for life. Same is true for cricketers/professional sportspersons as well. A player with fire in his belly and his future (along with financial prospects) riding on his performances at intl level will almost always beat a player who has "made it big" as regards to securing the future considering all things being equal (I mean things like skill level).

IPL has made us really strong at home in LOI....not that we weren't to begin with but the way we just dominate most oppositions can be attributed to IPL. Even guys like Tiwary,Jaddu,Yusuf just bring their A game in home matches. Raina is bradmenesque.

Contribution towards Indian cricket is negligible which is not surprising. Sure it throws up some unknown potentials who may not have had a chance at the international level based on their first class stat. Aussie cricketers and coaches benefit a lot out of this. Also this is T20 based league. So we should not pin our hopes on finding Test match stars, even ODI stars in this league. Having said that India should have been a strong T20 side due to this. But we are not.

1. it has given many players the financial security so they can keep playing the game they love . 2. it has allowed many player the platform to showcase their talent to more ppl. 3. it has allowed small time indian players to share dressing rooms with big names of international cricket and learn from them. ppl in this thread may think its cool to bash IPL but give it a break for the sake of those nameless domestic players who are never going to make into Indian team. this is their only chance to play at big stage with big names.

an for us fans to an opportunity to watch some of these domestic players live on TV . There are quite a few Ranji players careers i followed for years only to see them bat and bowl on TV during the first IPL .

He had pretty good A tours. Also he was the leading list A run getter couple of seasons back. He would have played for India regardless of IPL. Ashwin you can say as he got the attention by bowling regularly inside power plays. His man of the series in champions league was the turning point. Feeling bored this IPL. Teams are unbalanced. Not all teams are equal. Some teams r getting unfair advantage. 4-5 teams are clearly looking weaker in front of rest of 4-5 teams. Poor team selection happening. Every team's strategy is focussed around spinners. More number of boring matches than interesting matches

Let me give some timeline of Kohli's performance Kohli made his ODI debut on 18th Aug 2008 Kohli's first IPl season ended in May 2008 Kohli's performance in first IPL 13 matches 165 runs highest score of 38 with an average 15.00 There is no way Kohli got national cap due to IPL Reason he got the ODI cap was because he led the Indian under-19 side to world cup win which happened on march 2nd 2008

First and foremost IPL BRINGS TOGETHER THE BEST PLAYERS AND MINDS TOGETHER IN INDIA, players , coaches , fielders, batters, fitness, sports medicine, coaching, soo many things to gain, Gony got selected to play for Punjab regularly after IPL performance. First couple of IPL season had more charm as more rookies came into play now teams wanna play it safe and there are bigger squads to choose from, Ashwin, Jadeja, Rohit, Kohli, Pathan, Dinda, Abu Nechim, Gony, Umesh, Aaron got the spot light, the problem is once the talent is found it is not groomed properly by BCCI, kAMRAN , kHAN, Gony, Tyagi, Dinda, Nechim should've been groomed and played many more games for India a and India in ODI'S.I still believe IPL is a better place for batter or bowler to show class then Domestic where mediocrity thrives and stats cannot be taken seriously in a lot of cases. Players that can gain this season are Sreesanth, Suyal, Awana, Shukla, Aaron, Dhawan, Saha, Rohit, Pandey, Y Pathan, the IPL can be a good feeder system to look and identify talent which is raw, but next step is crucial that is where BCCI fails.
