Did Doosra destroy Harbhajan singh ?

I mean due to his obession with doosra , he lost his traditional off-break , flight and drift. And considering how the carrier of Saqlain ended with him being ineffective in his last test matches,do you think doosra destroys an off-spinner ? And the best off-spinner Swann doesn't posses a doosra .

FWIW' date=' Harbhajan doesn't bowl the doosra "at all" after he was reported for his suspect bowling action a couple of years back.[/quote'] actually after he stopped bowling it.. he became ineffective :hmmm:

Lack of the doosra rendered him ineffective. Because of the lack of variation, batsmen started to go after him and he started losing confidence - bowling faster through the air and not flighting it.

chucker :musicman:
If you're gonna hand out guilty verdicts despite the ICC clearing them, why bother creating threads that ask a question ? Just let us know why Harbhajan is ineffective.

@Ganesharan: This is what i said. He learnt doosra while sacrificing other arts of off-spin. Once he stopped bowling doosra he had neither flight, drift nor doosra

As a captain he himself doesnt have faith in his own bowling.. :dontknow: As soon as someone hits a six, he takes himself off... If he has a doosra, teersa whateva.. he hasnt shown it so far in this IPL

Kumble in the early 2000s went through a similar struggle in his career (not as bad as Bhajji though), but went away, worked on his bowling and came back with new variations, started turning the ball, cut his reliance on top spinners and started to bowl more googlies. Bhajji too after nearly 80-85 tests stagnated as a bowler. Should ideally have been dropped from the side in 2009 when it was clear he was not the same bowler. Needs to cut down on shorter formats and focus on FC cricket only for the rest of his career or till the time he gets his form back. Still has the flight, loop, drift and bounce but uses those skills occassionaly. And at 32, is still younger than Ajmal and Swann! Would be premature to write him off totally.

Bhajji's downfall is indeed a good topic of discussion. The popular opinion seems to be that he has become quite predictable. This would mean he has stopped evolving as a spinner/bowler. Variety not just in terms of the ball being bowled, but also strategy and technique have also gotta keep evolving. I guess Bhajji failed to cultivate those (thus far). He may still have another 7 years or so worth cricket left in him as a bowler.. we'll see.

Harbhajan had a hand injury where he had split his webbing also, ever since he came back after that he lost much of his spin and bounce , also he got defensive, bowled flatter, and also forgot his strength and tried to bowl too many doosras.

I just meant to say he doesnt have confidence in himself... That is what I deduce to be the reason for his decline.. He seems to be dependent on fate to get him wickets nowadays...
