There was massive anti-incumbency against both his Govt. and the UPA Govt. Add to that the fact that the state BJP was not a divided house like last time. Modi had very limited impact (if any). The BJP has been crediting all its victories in the recently-concluded Assembly elections in five states to its PM nominee Narendra Modi. Now even Congress seems to have joined the bandwagon. In a surprising turn of events, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has blamed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for Congress's poll debacle in Rajasthan. Gehlot has alleged that the EVMs used in the state polls, which were programmed in Ahmedabad, were tampered with at the behest of Modi. :hysterical: In a complaint to the Election Commission, Gehlot has demanded a probe into the matter to know the truth. He alleged that EVMs were tampered in a way to ensure every fifth vote, irrespective of the button pressed, was cast in favour of the BJP. Gehlot maintained that poll officials at the booth had given him a positive feedback about votes cast in favour of the Congress. However, the results showed an entirely different picture. While experts have said it is possible to know the truth by randomly checking 20-25 EVMs, the BJP has said the Congress is not able to take in such a massive defeat. On one side the most core and passionate supporters are hardcore chaddis who would oppose any move to legalize homosexuality. On the other side, one group of supporters are with BJP because of its development agenda and this group would be embarrassed by any public support for the SC order. So the best strategy for the BJP is to not take a public stand.
