arre u guys are barking at the wrong pole. It is because India has no sporting/fitness culture that we suck at olympics. Sporting infrastructure is not the problem' date=' after all there's some gyms in Mumbai.[/quote'] China achieved success without such culture, I guess.

China achieved success without such culture' date=' I guess.[/quote'] They are COMMUNIST, how DARE you compare us to them :P I was poking at that train of thought actually (fitness/sporting culture) and have sometimes seen it on this forum. Then there's another suggestion that people don't support the sports. My argument always has been if you have a good infrastructure, for instance numerous astro turfs for hockey along with skilled personnel such as coaches, dieticians, fitness experts etc you should do reasonably well without droves of supporters. The die hard attitude might win you an Asian games/CWG bronze but getting an Olympic gold needs major financial thrust.

I think its more about India not having a culture of quality. We play sports but are shyte at it, we make juices but out of rotten fruits, we are a democracy but elect corrupt politicians, we develop code of dubious quality...

Thats a weird line of argument. Not sure where, and whose post you read the following as: Indians lack a sporting culture = Indian Olympic Athletes should be served rotten food at Olympic camps. You are just trying to gain your own weird logical mileage out of what is a terribly unfortunate, and corrupt, example of how Athletes are provided shoddy services.

This is unbelievable considering Sahara and others have set up a committee to take care of the Olympic hopefuls....where is all that money going? HOW can a nation despite all its recent wealth and economic resurgence still cannot feed its athletes??? This is serious bullsh1t

Its about the blame for the poor performances. I expect a certain minimum investment in sports if we are to achieve reasonable performances while you bring out the cultural nonsense as the main problem. There's no mileage here, plain facts. Most knew our sport stars were an ignored lot in terms of priorities. How badly ignored, take a wild guess. You think American athletes making a few thousand rupees will shine through with the rotten food because of their sporting culture ?

Everybody is fed to full coffers in those committees but athletes.

Simple as that. Yes I am one of those who keeps yapping about lack of sporting culture, that does not mean I am for such a shoddy treatment of our athletes. How did you put that together? It baffles me when educated folks behave like a illiterate MLA. There are obviously more than 1 reason for India's abysmal sporting performance. I think it starts with people's lack of interest, you blame the Govt. thats the difference. By the way Bangladesh is ahead of India in FIFA football rankings. I am sure you blame it on this Olympic camp as well. :winky:
